No Reserve Bricknose: 1989 Ford F-250 XLT Lariat

SuperCab was the name Ford used for the extra space behind the front seat and it sure would have come in handy on our ’69 F-250 if there would have been such a thing back then. This 1989 Ford F-250 XLT Lariat 4×4 SuperCab is listed here on eBay in Spanaway, Washington, there is no reserve, and the current bid is just $2,650. Oh yeah, it has a 460 V8, too.

A SuperCab would have been a super feature of our old (new back then) pickup, as having four people crammed into the cab, sitting on black vinyl seats, was more than a little uncomfortable at times. It would be a different story with this truck. The eighth-generation Ford F-Series was made from 1986 through 1991 for most countries and they came in a Regular Cab, a SuperCab, and a Crew Cab.

The cap, or topper as a lot of us call them, is a nice feature, and here’s what it looks like inside. A perfect spot to sleep on weekend fishing trips. The seller mentions the small dent in the right rear portion of the bed and it isn’t really visible from the photo above but if you look at other photos of this side, you’ll see it. It appears to be a smooth indentation rather than a dent with a crease, so maybe it can be massaged out again. This is the top trim level for the era, the XLT Lariat.

There’s a fair amount of surface rust underneath but there doesn’t appear to be any body rust and the seller doesn’t mention any. A person could have the underside blasted and coated, which seems to be all the rage these days. I would probably do that if I were going to use this truck as a winter vehicle. The interior looks great, without any cracks or big flaws that I can see. The pre-cup-holder-era-cup-holder is a throwback, a lot of us used those in the days before we all neeeeeeeeeded a cup holder and could hardly get out of bed in the morning knowing there wasn’t a factory cupholder yet in Ford trucks. The humanity! Here’s the nice vinyl seat in the SuperCab area, it looks like new.

The engine is Ford’s 460-cu.in. OHV fuel-injected V8 with 230 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque when new. Backed by an automatic and a transfer case sending power to all four wheels as needed, the seller says it runs, drives, handles, and stops great. You’ll need the dual gas tanks and they’re said to be working, too. Any thoughts on this F-250?

The styling of these bricknose trucks has really come back around, in my opinion. I never liked the dash layout much. But it’s OK enough.

As far as cupholders, I agree that it’s kind of crazy that you get like a minimum of six nowadays. But….I’d rather these have had a cupholder than an ashtray. I quit smoking, but I still drink a few (non alcoholic of course) beverages from time to time.

I like the look of this one, colors and all. I wouldn’t need a 460, though.

I had one of these in a half ton that was a “pass around” truck. A group of about 4 that took turns owning it some more than once. Same body/bed configuration and same trim level in black/silver. The topper looked like this (“ours”) was made by Leer but the guy that bought it new got it at the end of the year and it had a 302 with FI but the best a 1/2 ton got was the 351 FI. Not a lot of power but it was a good running, driving comfortable truck but with the 8′ bed the turn radius was wide to say the least. :) I really liked it but I’ve never heard them called bricknose though it is appropriate.

Bricknose? Around my parts we call ’em Bullnose. A west coast thing?
