No Reserve K5 Survivor: 1985 Chevy Blazer

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

With mileage just over 51,000, this 1985 Chevrolet K5 Blazer remains in very respectable condition – maybe not quite time-warp, but definitely better than just a driver. The paint still looks lustrous, there’s no corrosion on the polished trim rings on the wheels, and the running boards appear to have seen only the daintiest of feet. The seller notes it has minimal flaws inside and out, and despite the Idaho plates, the Blazer is listed in Washington State. Find it here on eBay where bidding is at $6,500 with no reserve.

While we see a fair amount of these K5 Blazers on this website, I’m just digging this one more than the last few we’ve posted. I blame the running boards, which may be tacky but are also very period correct. The chrome on the bumpers is shockingly good for the mileage, and the trim plate on the rear gate is likewise in minty condition. The body looks very straight up and down the sides, with no evidence of major dings or dents. It may also be rubbing me the right way because we don’t see a ton of these in white, with seemingly most of them popping up in blue or black.

Speaking of blue, the interior wears a very period-correct color scheme. Things look a bit more tired inside, and the blue fabric appears to shift color depth in different areas. The piping on the driver’s seat is slightly uneven, which is typical for any vehicle with this sort of mileage. The seller notes the dash is cracked, but that a new carpeted dash cover hides it all away. I wish the cover matched the rest of the interior, but that’s a tall order when trying to find an old school dash cover to hide the ugly cracks that might otherwise distract potential buyers.

The seller claims the Blazer runs and drives great, and it’s equipped with new tires. 4WD engages and works well, and there’s seemingly no mechanical issues associated with the truck at this time. Mileage is low enough that there really shouldn’t be any immediate needs, and the truck certainly has the look of being an example that’s been maintained. I’d be willing to bet the removable hard top has never been off the truck, but hopefully, the next owner will enjoy some open-air cruising in this low-mileage Blazer.

I lost track of the number of Jimmies we sold. There were times when they were the best selling truck at our dealership. This looks like a decent truck although I was never fussy about the transfer case that was in these from ’80 onward. I always thought there were rather flimsy compared to the NP 203 or 205. They still held up. I might add that I never cared much for the R-4 A-C compressor; the A-6 was a much better unit. If this came my way, those running boards would be gone almost before the engine shut down. They serve the purpose well but I think they’re bulky and they make it very difficult to get underneath with the pressure washer and wash the mud out of there. And they WILL rust.

I would ditch all the Pep Boys add-ons (grille, running boards, bug catcher, etc.) and take this back to as original as possible.

“Retro” is cool these days, but not on this Blazer!

can you see maybe if your lucky 9 mpg. and thats with the ac off. your better off with a box fan in the window. these things have a history of melting in winter especially with those running boards. throw a newer 6 litre in it and you will probably get better mpg’s. it looks well taken care of. it just needs a k3500 drive train to give it some class. and dont forget the awd feature…
