Not 1, Not 2, But 3 1968 Ford Torinos!

When I first saw the ad for this 1968 Ford Torino I thought it was an intriguing car–then I found out it comes with a complete parts car and another partial parts car! It’s listed for sale here on Facebook Marketplace and is located in Williamston, Michigan. The asking price is $9,750 and the car comes with a new Automotive Auto Restoration Rotisserie!

It’s apparent that the car is currently living in a storage unit (which might account for the need to sell it) but it was removed for at least some of the pictures. The seller lists the car as being all-original, but I would be surprised if that were the original paint given what looks like overspray on the bottom of the hood. The wheels are also vintage chromed steel aftermarket wheels. However, the car looks pretty straight and it’s obvious the owner is an enthusiast. The Torino was introduced in 1968 as a new intermediate model for Ford, and while this is not the enthusiast-oriented GT version, all the Torinos were a couple of notches above the similar but plainer Fairlanes.

Although the 1968s were constructed on the same basic platform as the 1966-67 models, the mildly “Coke bottle” styling was fresh and well-received by buyers. 172,083 Torinos found buyers in 1968, and another 199,704 similarly-styled Fairlanes were produced. Of those Torinos, 35,964 were two-door hardtops like this one. The shiny paint and nice trim in this picture make this car really appealing, and the creamy white vinyl top is refreshingly different from the more common black seen in the late 1960s. The Torino has a lot of front and rear overhang, with an overall length of just over 201″ against a wheelbase of 116″.

The interior looks like it is in need of a good clean but looks intact and largely vice-free. Sure, some buckets would be nice, and I might think about finding an appropriate pair and substituting them on a temporary basis, but I’d store the bench well and have it ready to reinstall. Speaking of storing–you’re going to have to find the room to store another two cars as well. Although the seller doesn’t include pictures of them, the complete car is a 302 V-8 car with many mechanical and interior parts, soda blasted and primed body panels, a set of American Racing rims, and all the glass. There’s also another engine included; it’s a 351 Windsor V-8 that has been rebuilt by Jasper Engines. Decisions, decisions!

The blue car has a 289 cubic-inch V-8 and the presumption is that it’s a runner. Unfortunately, the seller gives us no details as to the car’s current mechanical condition. Presuming it runs as good as it looks, what do you think about this car, the project car that comes with it, and the parts? Are they worth it?

Under 10 just for the blue one seems like a bargain . Dragging the other 2 away might make it a pain unless you’re equipped to do so or live close by . It is a sweet car though.

If the bottom of quarters/doors/fenders are
rust free, this is a deal. Michigan winters can
wreak havoc on metal, so look closely at the
normal problematic areas. I like it alot, but as
Bud Lee states, hauling away the other 2 will
    be challenging…

My 68 Torino GT just got totaled by a young immigrant driver who ran a red light right down the street from where I live.. It was a show car I bought from the original owner.. It sat in a barn for 12 years after the owners wife took his license away. Go figure.. It was original and mint and won several trophies..

      Man, that sucks.
      Sorry for your loss.
Is it worse because an immigrant did it as opposed to a slack jawed yoekel?

The bad part is he had no insurance and a prior (same thing) a few years before. I ended up with 10 days in physical therapy and months of legal entanglement.. I ended up buying a 76 Torino Elite with the longest hood imaginable.

That sucks. I’ve had my share of cars destroyed. It’s never fun.

Piper62j: Sorry for your loss, but hope your example influences the votes of others come November. While I’m typing, thought I would ask others about their experiences with Jasper engines?

Piper62j: Sorry to hear. Must be like salt in the wound to see this car posted here.

For curiosity would have been nice to see pics of the two parts cars. And the rotisserie.

I did get a chuckle out of the title in the Marketplace ad: “trino.”

I did some research on Jasper Engines and decided to go with a local machine shop instead.. I always read the reviews on a company before buying anything.

My first car was a 68 Fairlane. Lime gold, parchment interior, black vinyl roof, 302 automatic. Loved that car even as the upstate NY winters turned the undercarriage into Swiss cheese. Still have the grille, side trim and dashpad among other various pieces in case I want to find another to restore.

I have been using Jasper engines and their other rebuilt items since 1968. I have never had a problem, defect or any other issues. I originally stated using their products while living in Illinois and they were semi-local in Jasper Indiana. I was pleasantly surprised to find them doing business out west when I moved to Nevada. Having spent the first half of my automotive career in the parts and repair side I found their recommendations/requirements for a trouble free install and engine life very professional and helpful. If needed at some time down the road, I would use them again in a heartbeat.
