The Ramcharger was Dodge’s answer to the Chevy Blazer and Ford Bronco. It was a large SUV based on a shortened version of the Dodge Ram pickup. Built from 1974 to 1993, it had an intercompany companion in the Plymouth Trail Duster, the only time Plymouth offered such a vehicle. This 1975 example is the Sports Edition (a trim package) and wears its original Sunstone Orange paint. In good running condition, this Mopar is in Liberty Lake, Washington, and is available here on eBay where the latest bid stands at $8,500.
Most Ramchargers were sold with 4-wheel-drive, although you could get one with 2WD. Over its 20-year reign, the SUV could be had with anything from a 225 cubic inch Slant-Six to a 440 V8, pending on the model year. The seller’s “truck” has the 360 8-cylinder engine paired with a 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Recent upgrades to it include an aluminum radiator and a Holley Double Pumper carburetor. Dodge brought the Ramcharger back briefly in 1999-01 but it was limited to 2WD.
This SUV has 87,000 miles and is largely original, including the wilder paint color. But it has more than its share of scratches and some rust is trying to take root in a few places. The “truck” comes with a removable top (just like Chevy and Ford’s offerings). The contrasting interior looks sufficient and has a center console that can accommodate your beverages (adult or otherwise). The seller is including a new carpet set that the buyer can install.
The tires are said to be like new, but we don’t know how old they are (age is more important than tread). Everything works but the radio, but all it may need is a set of speakers to crank out some tunes. The windshield is the only piece of glass with issues, which may only be limited to a rock chip. If you can address the rust issues without having to repaint the whole truck, that would be a plus. They’re only original once.
I’ll be bidding on this one. My brother in law had one and they will go anywhere. Also always liked the body style and my power wagon’s 360 was a great runner and powerful. Not a huge fan of the full time 4WD though. Had issues in the past. Other than that, really nice truck
You can convert the full time 4WD to part time. When there were a lot of these trucks still about someone sold a kit with the lock-out hubs and everything else you needed. You also have to take the spider gears out of the center differential, which likely needs a fluid change anyway. Ford also used Dana axles and often you can get all the parts you needed at a junk yard if you can tolerate the front hubs having “Ford” painted in white on the red plastic. Good luck at the auction!
Good luck Dave’s Boy! I’ve been poking around for one of these for a while to replace my 72 Blazer. This one is the wrong coast for me. Love the color! Keep it orange if you get it.
A tech at a dealer where I worked had one in white, and did the part-time 4wd conversion Roland speaks of. Upped the gas mileage from a dismal 10 or so to around 16. Which isn’t bad, it’s all I get with my Wrangler.
You all are wrong I had a ford bronco, and a Plymouth trailduster, but never own a blazer don’t care much about gm products, BUT TO GET TO MY MAJOR POINT IS THE INTERNATIONAL SCOUT WAS THE VERY FIRST SUV THAT CAME OUT AND CAN DO BETTER,I HAD 5 SCOUTS AND THEY ARE MUCH BETTER.
I love all Scouts, especially the 2s, but I believe the first true SUV would be the Willys Wagon.
Had a 75 same color w/white top, 360 4×4. Pulled a big sail boat and needed the 4×4 to get up the mossy boat ramp(s). Got about 13-14mpg boat or no-boat.
Looks like a repaint to me. Check out the door latch posts. Also compare the paint on the inside dmfender wells. Why would that look worse than exterior paint exposed to years out in the elements?
I don’t see a repaint. Looking at the rust areas there is no sign of a repaint only original paint. As far as the jambs go I see dirt around the factory labels and no sign of being taped off.
Only went for $11,600. Somebody made out like a bandit.
