Old-School Pony! 1969 Ford Mustang

Looking for a classic Mustang with some ’70s flair? This 1969 Ford Mustang SportsRoof in Warwick, Rhode Island features aftermarket fog lights, an owner-installed sunroof, custom tufted door panels, department store steering wheel, CB radio, a bitchin’ graphic equalizer, and more! The original inline six cylinder engine is long-gone, replaced with a 351 V8. Check out more pictures and details here on eBay where it awaits an $11,900 opening bid. Thanks to Mitchell G. for spotting this never-restored Pony.

“Breaker 1-9, this here’s the Tufted Pony. Can I get a speed check on I95 North, mile marker 27?” The Citizens Band (CB) radio tapped drivers into a ’70s social network of truck drivers, wanna-be truckers, and highway stars. Owning a CB didn’t make a jive turkey cool, but it upped your game for sure. Other custom touches on this ’69 including rocker switches and a rad’ clock cut into the dashboard. Sling a pair of fuzzy dice over the rear view mirror and you’re putting down some groovy vibes.

Nothing says “fearsome speed” like a flimsy trailer hitch. Anything that hauls a 14 foot Johnboat to the river can surely smoke some fools when the light turns green. This Ford left the factory in Pastel Gray before getting this appliance white makeover. Credit the seller for showing rusty shots from various angles, including the underside.

An Edelbrock intake manifold and what looks like a Holley “double pumper” hint at some go-fast intentions, as does the dual-points distributor. Some pictures show a red hood that the current owner sourced to replace the white one (drilled for a four-pin lift-off arrangement). The seller set the opening bid on this No Reserve auction lower knowing most buyers will re-skin the roof to ditch that groovy sunroof. Would you keep on truckin’ with this Mustang’s ’70s vibe or re-make it your way?

I’d “keep on truckin,” right past this one. Ridden hard, and put away wet, during the Reagan years.

Featured on this site in early April for $13,900. Good deals don’t last, which helps explain why this is still for sale.

I would pass on this one.

I am hoping the gears ⚙️ can handle the 351 (Windsor or Cleveland?) engine.

Marti is nice but tied to a inline six.

This looks like much work and a Coyote engine replacement.

The sunroof is a shame .
I would try to weld a section in first and all fails roof replacement.

    Good luck with sale.

The engine is a 351 Cleveland, the Holley carburetor is a single feed vacuum secondary, most likely a 600cfm.

“Time capsule from the early 80s. Day 2 car. Some rust, Includes some replacement metal. Complete, ready for mechanical or full restoration. Originally an L code 6 cylinder, three speed manual shift, Sportsroof. Fastback in other years. Currently a 351 Cleveland with a 4 speed top loader, has a 9″ Traction Lok rear end. Day two? More like day 2000! Was a IL6/3 speed.
