The former owner of this 1965 Chevrolet Nova SS passed away over a decade ago. Before she did, her husband gave her a gift by treating the car to a complete restoration. It still presents beautifully today and is ready to find a new home. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Mitchell G. for spotting the Nova listed here on eBay in Sarasota, Florida. The seller set their BIN at $31,950 with the option to make an offer.
Chevrolet released its First Generation Nova in 1962, with the Super Sport joining the range in 1963. Buyers had to wait until 1964 for a V8 Nova, with engine choices expanded further in 1965. This SS hails from that year, and its presentation is superb. The late owner’s husband treated the car to a thorough restoration, cloaking the laser-straight panels in Mist Blue Metallic. The seller admits that a close inspection will reveal minor chips, but feels that addressing these would be easy. They blocked the exterior, leaving the paint shining like glass. They supply underside shots that reveal the floors painted semi-gloss Black, but with no undercoat that would potentially hide nasty surprises. There is no evidence of existing or developing rust and no sign that this Nova features anything but its original steel from the factory. The restoration included refreshing the exterior trim and, with clear glass, this classic is guaranteed to draw crowds wherever it goes.
The Nova’s exterior wasn’t the only aspect of this classic that received attention from the late owner’s husband. He performed a complete retrim in Black vinyl, and the lack of wear and other significant issues suggest that it hasn’t done much work since the build ended. The seatcovers are slightly stretched and there might be minor carpet wear near the driver’s feet. Otherwise, it still looks stunning and will draw positive comments. The dash and pad are excellent, while the bucket seats, console, and AM radio add a luxurious feel to the interior.
Powering this Nova is a 283ci V8, which the first owner teamed with a two-speed Powerglide transmission and power steering. This engine produces 220hp and 295 ft/lbs of torque, and although the Powerglide will stifle performance when compared to a stick shift, it should still trundle along quite nicely with a wonderful note emitted by the new dual exhaust. The seller indicates that every aspect of this classic received attention during the build, suggesting that the drivetrain may have been refreshed. The seller supplies no specific information on the car’s mechanical health, but I see nothing to indicate that the news will be anything but positive. They appear approachable, so reaching out to them before committing the funds to this purchase would seem like a no-brainer.
This 1965 Nova SS is a sweet little classic that could turn more heads today than it did sixty years ago. It has no immediate needs and, since it is rust-free, it should offer the new owner years of motoring pleasure. The statistics tell the story of this classic, with the auction receiving over 700 views in the past day. The Watch List tally of eighty-three is impressive, making me wonder if any of those people are trying to get their financial ducks in a row before making a play for this gem. Are you tempted to beat them to the punch? I will understand if you do.
This Nova is just Beautiful. Your heart breaks reading about the husband restoring his wifes Nova before she died. Sadly, as time marches on, we will sadly see more cars with stories like this. I truly hope whoever buys this keeps it this nice.
SOLD! Not surprised at that asking price. I always liked the looks of the Nova vs the competition and with a sweet little 283 it’s perfect.
