Although special edition Mustangs are not hard to find, there are occasionally examples that were truly built in limited numbers. Unlike a genuine Shelby or other six-figure ‘Stang, this 1984 Mustang GT350 is an anniversary edition and one of only 104 built with the turbocharged four-cylinder. You can find it here on craigslist with just 58,000 miles and an asking price of $8,500. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Cheato for the find.
The GT350 20th Anniversary editions came standard in Oxford White with a Canyon Red interior. This example appears to be in fine condition, with the GT350 graphics and body striping still attached. The inside looks great as well, and thankfully this turbocharged edition is equipped with a manual transmission. The three-spoke steering wheel is a great look for this car, and there should also be a turbo gauge in the dash on this example.
The 5.0 was also an option for this special edition models, both in fuel injected and carb’d form. Though some might say it’s more desirable, the turbocharged mill was no slouch and could still hustle the four-eyed Mustang to 60 in under 10 seconds. Though there’s no mention of its maintenance history, the overall condition and low milage would seem to indicate that mechanical issues should be few and far between. Under the hood is quite clean as well.
This generation of the Mustang came with TRX tires, but the seller doesn’t indicate if they have been replaced with pricey originals or something more commonplace. The matching red convertible top boot sits nicely above the rear seat, and make it hard to miss the halo headrests these Mustangs came with. While production may have been limited, prices haven’t exactly soared for these early 80s Mustangs, so the asking price may still be a tad ambitious.
Short of machining off the outer band of those aluminum wheels and welding on a more modern replacement, they are certainly TRX tires, for nothing else will fit that wheel

$8500 will barely get you a signed glove box door from a ’60’s Shelby. Looks like a fun “sunny day driver”.

I didn’t like TRX wheels when you could still buy the tires.
If it runs good with no mechanical issues I think his price is not too far out of line, looks to be a fun driver and where else can you get a great looking convertible for $8500 with a manual and turbo charged.
I would rather have a V8 , LS swap would do .
Why would anyone pay a premium price for a strip package and one of the worst engines Ford ever made? I bet you can hear the rod know from 2 blocks away.
I had no idea that they offered the turbo 4 in this car. I thought it only came in the SVO Mustang. THe SVOs were cool looking and sorta quick with 175 hp, but most people preferred the V8.
There’s a company that makes reproduction TRX wheels but in 16″.
I remember when they came out. Could not figure out why people bought the 4 cylinder when I think the 302 was cheaper than the turbo 4. Like this one and would like it beside my Iroc convertible/
The 4 cylinder turbo was only available with a manual trans in these cars. I used to have a charcoal gray ’84 GT Turbo (not the GT350 edition) convertible. It was a fun, reliable car with decent power and served me well as my daily driver for several years.
I generally don’t like cars painted white or red interior, yet I’ve always liked thes 4 eyed foxes. Go figure.
Looks like a nice fun car. Pretty rare indeed, I can’t remember the last time I saw a car with the E-brake engaged.
@Miguel..you are sooo wrong sir, the 2.3L is an anvil, By’ 84 the oil galley problems were fixed. The turbo version can make 400 flywheel Horsepower on the stock innards. Just check out Turboford.com or any of the Merkur boards, there are plenty of modded 2300’s doing amazing things.
Never cared for the Fox body Mustangs, but I like the convertible models.
