One Family Ranger! 1968 Ford F100

Looking fresh as an Irish Spring, this 1968 Ford Truck F100 Ranger pickup in Parker, Colorado seeks a new family for the first time since, well, ever! According to the listing here on eBay, the original owner’s son began a restoration including a glass-out paint job seven years ago, and now it’s offered as-is in a No Reserve auction. The bed may have been painted separately from the front of the truck, based on a slight color difference, or it could just be a trick of the light. The upscale Ranger trim was also removed for paint, according to the seller, and this baby would draw a crowd even with its semi-finished original interior. At least nine bidders have its market value above $6400 with three days remaining.

Replace that upholstery and you might be about done in here. There was no F150 in ’68 so this was the entry level half-ton with the most car-like ride, thanks to the Twin I-Beam independent suspension and softer springs all around.

Later F-Series mirrors offer better visibility than the single-post originals, but purists would consider a return to original before paint. Thanks to the library of brochures at lov2xlr8 for some information. Check out the spotter’s guide at Fordification for all the juicy details on the ’67 to ’72 F-series.

Though not identified by the seller, this should be the original Y Code 360 cid (5.9L) V8, nicely repainted in Ford corporate blue. I’d have probably developed a facial tic if I had to re-attach that rusty manual brake master cylinder to a freshly-painted firewall, but sometimes you just need to get it back on the road.

Interestingly, these are mid-line Custom door panels and not the fancier Ranger panels, which may have been a restoration choice. Check out that long-range shifter on the four-speed manual gearbox! I remember an awkward moment driving two female co-workers in my bench-seat floor-shifted F250, when engaging Reverse sent my hand on an unexpected journey into my middle passenger’s skirt. I said if I knew that was going to happen I’d have bought her dinner. We had a laugh and FoMoCo took any blame. Whew! I’m sure this Ford has some fun stories in its past as well. Will you write the next chapter in the history of this partially-restored Ranger?

Wow!! Very nice truck. The body and paint look great, I’m wondering if that seat cover could be repaired? Overall it looks like a lot of time and work went into what’s been done so far. I usually like stock or original rims, but the later model Ford rims look good here too. Someone’s getting a great old truck here.

Looks like a good F100. I agree, the cab and bed paint colors look a little different. And new upholstery would help. But overall, for a driver it would be fine. That is a serious shift lever, and thanks Todd for the fun remembrance.

What a beautiful truck! I can relate to having a Datsun pickup with a floor shift and car pooling to college 30 miles away during the 1973 energy crisis and 2 lovely young girls next to me. My hand never went where it was not supposed to but I should have had either girl shift for me since they both had manual VW bugs

I never knew Ford had a 360. Interesting.
