One-of-One Royal Ride: 1972 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Superstretch

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1972 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow superstretch limo is unlike anything else on the market. Built as a one-off on chassis no. SRA13041, it measures a staggering 24 feet in length thanks to an 84-inch stretch. Finished in pearl white with an Everflex vinyl roof, it features dual moon roofs and 24K gold-plated headlight bezels. Power comes from the original 6.75-liter V8 with dual SU carburetors, backed by a 3-speed automatic. Located in the U.S. and listed here on craigslist, it’s being offered both as a collectible oddity and a potential income-generating machine. Thanks for the tip Mitchell G.!

The limo was built with 10-passenger seating and an interior trimmed in Connolly leather and burled walnut. Amenities include an electric division window with intercom, illuminated vanity mirrors, a cocktail cabinet with crystal decanters, a champagne bucket with ice box, and full glassware for eight. Dual air conditioning units ensure comfort in the expansive cabin, while a Sony TV/VCR and stereo provide entertainment.

Stretching a Silver Shadow by 84 inches was no small feat, and the proportions were carefully preserved. Eight fender-mounted sidelights accentuate its length, and the pearl finish paired with gold trim projects an unmistakable air of luxury. The seller notes that reupholstering the interior—perhaps in dramatic faux alligator—is the main cosmetic task ahead.

Mechanical work has already been started, with the carburetors and ignition points rebuilt after the car’s 15-year storage. The engine is said to run smoothly, though the car hasn’t been road-tested recently. Repairs are also needed to the rear-end bodywork, some glass, and chrome, but the chassis retains its independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes.

The seller highlights its potential as a money-maker, with wedding rentals bringing $500 per hour and minimum bookings often running four hours or more. For a buyer willing to complete the cosmetic and minor mechanical work, this unique Rolls could easily return to service as a luxury event vehicle, or simply serve as the ultimate conversation piece in a collection. Would you put it back to work or enjoy it as your personal statement project?

The car is located in Canada, just north of Toronto. The owner is “Ian”, and he regularly has really beat Rollers for sale. He mainly offers decrepit Shadows, but was trying to sell a Spirt/Spur with the roof cut off for about a year. Most of his offerings are parts cars at best….like this one. He had this one listed on a Facebook Limo Sales group for $12,500 back in January.

Wow. Cool car. I wonder who made/ordered it. Amazing specimen. Fine vintage.

I find it hard to believe that any wedding party paying $500/hr would be pleased at the sight of an ancient, tiny, CRT TV in the bulkhead.

Wouldn’t a wedding party have other things to concentrate on than the size of the TV?

It’s an OLD ROLLS ROYCE which is bad enough much less one that was cut in half and built into a limo by a converter.

$5K or less car at best.

Buying this car will be the cheapest part of the ownership nightmare!

While I have long appreciated ROLLS ROYCE automobiles, as I’ve frequently stated, I’m now a vintage ROLLS CANARDLY, rolling down one hill and Can ardly get up the next. Unfortunately, It looks as if this would take a stretch to even get it out of the mud ,before rolling. DESECRATION!

What a mess! I’d be embarrassed to be seen in this! As has been said here before: a cheap Rolls is the most expensive car you will ever own!

… might as well continue down the road with this project and make it into a “Beverly Hills Hillbilly” RV.

Cost of repairing the brakes alone is the cost of a new small Kia coupled with the fact it may not be legal to hire out as a limo, depending on the state you are in. I see nothing good here – i have had over 300 Rolls-Royce & Bentleys pass through my hands. Dangerous, decrepit & deadly.
