One Owner 18k Miles! 1985 Chevrolet Caprice Classic

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Caprice is one of Chevrolet’s most venerable nameplates. It was applied to a luxurious version of the Impala in 1965 and became a series of its own the next year – and stuck around for the next 50 years! The third generation in 1977 and the seller’s 1985 edition is the same car with some refreshing in the styling department. This is a one-family car that appears to have just 18,000 miles – perhaps only driven to church on Sundays?

Perhaps to reaffirm its place in the Chevrolet roster, the car became the Caprice Classic in the 1970s. The third-gen Caprices had been downsized like the Impalas to reduce weight and use less gasoline. So, a 305 cubic inch V8 was considered enough engine to propel these cars in 1985, though they were certainly no barnburners. They continued to be big sellers and more than 139,000 sedans were sold in 1985, the year this Bow-Tie was built. By today’s standards, these are still big automobiles.

This could be the lowest-mileage mid-1980s Caprices left around. Though a one-owner vehicle, it doesn’t look to have necessarily babied. The Experion AutoCheck Report indicates no accidents, but the seller (a dealer?) offers no explanation as to why some of the chrome trim is missing on one side, particularly the right passenger front door. The paint could be original, and we’re told the Chevy has “virtually” no rust. It’s thought to be a great running car as the seller would not hesitate to take it on a round trip.

With a clean title and no apparent need for repair, this later land yacht is available in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It’s offered here on eBay where the bidding has been brisk up to $5,250 with no reserve, so the car will sell. If you were to buy this Chevy, what would you do with it? It’s not really a show car or one that would attract a crowd at Cars & Coffee? Another tip from Mitchell G.!

I had one of that year, for about a year-and-a-half. It was nice, but I did notice a flaw which surprises me was never publicly showcased. The alternator support bracket was made of flimsy metal, prone to distortion, causing the alternator to loosen and even misalign. “Screech” (the name I gave my car) would eat belts like a kid on a sugar rush eats candy. If there was a way to fix that, I never found it out, because I didn’t have the car long enough…but that’s another story, one I’d prefer to forget.

These made great derby cars. That, and Cash For Clunkers, sealed most of their fate.

1985 was the oldest model year eligible for C4C (and Caprices were unchanged 1981-85 – but VINs were being run).

That car has at least 118,k miles 5 digit odometer you don’t get that kind of ware and tare on the carpet and radio preset buttons.

Agree, no way miles correct, 47 pictures but none on steering wheel and turn signal lever, that picture would have killed the pretended low miles

Had an 89’ with the 9C1 package, had been a North Carolina DMV Enforcement vehicle, carpet, cruise, AM/FM, so much better with the fuel injected 350 and the police suspension, would have loved to see the LT1 in the boxy version

There is something wrong with this Caprice. The passenger side s certainly off. Where is the rear door ding strip at? Where is the front door lower chrome molding piece. Why does the adjacent front fender chrome piece look ajar and rusty. Where are the rear bumper soft plastics pieces that fit between the bumper and body? The truck lid is higher than the rear fender. Why is the car not sitting level! The paint looks nice as does the interior. Maybe the carpet could be cleaned but it is yellowed. At any rate, this car should be checked out for accidents. Something is not being stated about the real condition of this Chevy.

I believe the moldings and trim missing is the result of automatic car wash brushes.
