When you ask most people about a classic Chevy pickup, they will probably think of a few body styles…1950, 1957, 1965 or 1972. However, “square body” Chevrolets from the 1970s and 80s have recently come into their own and are picking up steam as collector classics. Heck, a truck from 1980 is forty years old this year! This 1986 C10 is said to be a one-owner truck that can be found for sale here on eBay with a current bid just over $12,000. Being sold by Hill City Hot Rods in Lynchburg, Virginia, the truck was sold new in Edin, North Carolina and has supposedly spent its whole life in that Mid-Atlantic region. Take a look at this one, it’s a very nice survivor!
There aren’t too many details in the ad other than the truck had one repaint in 2002. As you can see, the interior is a nice burgundy color, which according to the original paperwork is option XEE1. The seat, dash, door panels, and pretty much everything else look like they are all original.
The engine is a 5.0 liter V8 (305 cubic inches) backed by an automatic transmission. Just like the interior, the engine compartment is nice, clean, and original. Hopefully, the routine maintenance items have been done over the years. Engine swaps in these trucks are pretty easy to do, but this one is so original, it would almost be a shame to swap it out. What do you think?
Here is a great profile picture showing the short box. These trucks have great styling and look awesome with factory or aftermarket wheels and tires. There are a ton of aftermarket components for lifting or lowering these trucks. Overall, this looks like a winner in my book. What’s your opinion?
IMHO: Don’t lift it or lower it.
Perfect just as it sits. Nice find.
Wonder if the cam was ever replaced? 305’s were notorious for wiping out cams. Ask me how I know!
Beautiful truck, too bad the leg room is not that good for a tall person.
Even with a long bed, the current Chevy pickup would dwarf this one. Sooner or later, one will need a CDL to drive a pickup. Wake up Detroit, these vintage pickups are big enough! Just my humble opinion.
We all know how tall Scotty G. is so let’s have it Tim. Impress us with your height.
A whopping 5’7”! I stand by my comment though, even with being vertically challenged.
LOL. I’m 5’8”. I actually intended on replying to Jerry Z…oops.
Nice truck, but $12g’s? Really? Here’s another overblown market, a la 1st gen Bronco, FJ, etc. Again, I don’t mean to gloat, but I paid 10% of what this person wants, for essentially the same truck, not near as nice, but still. Don’t get me wrong, I like the truck, but I’d never pay 5 figures for one. Guess it’s a good time to have a square body GM short box.
I had a duplicate to this truck, loved it. Then my girlfriend started talking wedding. Big bills ensued, you know the rest.
For Comet Run forest run
What’s with Barn Finds today, everything listed that most people ,”Don’t Like”, I love and would own ,if I could. Customized Camper Truck, Short Box P/U, Restomod Pitina Trucks, Avanti’s, even a Piper Aztec, that I know is out of the question. Thank you Barn Finds, this mornings has been lots of fun and a great diversion from thinking about problems we are all facing right now. It is so much fun thinking about fun things ,that in the grand scheme of things are not life threatening . There will be time to get back to that but a short term car fix, has been a good thing.
While it’s a very nice truck, it’s also not completely original. A Silverado had a cloth seat, not the vinyl seat like the lower trim levels did. However, that is very easy to correct. Buyer just needs to be aware since this truck likely won’t go cheap.
Jerry z I’m 6’1 or 6’2 and my dad had a 82 Chevy c10 with the 6.2 diesel with a 8 foot bed when I was a kid up until I was in highschool and I had plenty of leg room. These trucks are alot better looking than what we have now. The only thing that is making me not want this truck is that it has a 6 foot bed. I won’t own a truck unless it has a 8 foot bed.
I’d love to have this truck if I didn’t already have more vehicles than I need. Personally I think the $12K price is not out of line as single cab, short bed trucks are more sought after than long beds. You don’t buy a truck like this to work out of, it’s just basically a two seat sports car to drive around in.
Yeah, I have to agree with Fred B…This is not a Silverado. It’s a “10 Custom Deluxe” with the vinyl floor and roll up windows and lack of a slider rear window which was pretty much standard equipment for the Silverado reg cab. Someone changed the badges along the way, (had an ’84 long box 2WD).
It is a very nice truck (last year body style for the 1/2 ton), but not keen of the red int with the black, would prefer the grey or blue int (I don’t think they offered a black int which would be ideal IMO)
Is this generation of c-10 good for tall people. I’m 6’4 ” and want a shortbed that would fit in my garage.
