The Chrysler minivan was Lee Iacocca’s third major automotive success story in 20 years. The first was the iconic Ford Mustang “pony car” (1964), then there was the Chrysler K-Car (1981), which saved the company, and the minivan (1984), which started an industry phenomenon that lives on today. The front-wheel-drive Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager arrived in ’84 and became the coffin nail for the U.S. station wagon. The seller has a survivor-quality 1993 Caravan SE that’s a one-owner vehicle in good shape with lots of newer parts. Located in Fairfield/Vacaville, California, this trend setter is available for the cheap wheels price of $3,000 here on craigslist. Jack M. found this tip for us!

Caravans (and Grand Caravans) were a Chrysler fixture for 36 years, with the name retired at the end of 2020. Five generations were produced, resulting in 11 million assemblies, excluding those marketed under Chrysler and Plymouth banners. We had a 1994 Plymouth Voyager with the same mechanical and passenger configuration as this one, and it served us well, eventually being replaced by a GMC Jimmy. If not for the K-Car or the minivan, Chrysler may have very well disappeared like Studebaker and other financially strapped automakers.

This Caravan has had only one owner and is registered with the California DMV and smog gods through much of 2026. Powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine, this well-maintained people mover has had quite a lot of new parts added in the last 15,000 miles (out of 125,000 total). They include the timing belt, water pump, brakes, hoses and belts, fluids, as well as a transmission (automatic) service. While not terribly fuel-efficient by today’s standards, this van should deliver up to 24 mpg depending on driving situation.

All in all, this Dodge runs and drives great and looks mostly good. The grey interior is fine but showing its age. The back seat is removable to create a lot of storage or moving capacity. This came in handy with our Voyager when several of us guys camped out at the racetrack for the annual Daytona 500. Since a CarFax is mentioned as well as delivery being available, we assume this Caravan is being offered by a dealer. If you need some cheap wheels for hauling the kids around or whatever, the price might be right on this one.
