One Owner Project: 1969 Cadillac Coupe de Ville

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The 1969 Cadillac de Ville received some fresh styling details that made it present more like an Eldorado than before, such as new front fenders and extended quarters, making an already massive car appear even longer.  These were quite the personal luxury cruisers back in the late sixties, but that was a long time ago, and unfortunately, this 1969 Coupe de Ville here on eBay is no longer operational.  However, it’s mostly complete and seems like decent material to work with, so if you’ve been searching for a lavish project, this one may be worth considering.  The Caddy hardtop is in Santa Rosa, California, with the black plates still attached, and bidding has reached $1,575 so far.  You can also own it today for the buy-it-now cost of $5,000.

Not very many details about the car’s past are provided, but the owner does tell us that this one came to him as a donation.  Before that, it’s said to have been a one-owner barn find, although some of the current pictures show it sitting inside a garage.  Most of the exterior photos feature only the passenger side, with the car having rust being the only sheet metal condition details provided.  Maybe there’s more on the opposite side, but I’m not spotting any serious issues here, with the one close-up shot we get to view showing only some light corrosion in the lower extremities.  A dent is visible on the one fender we can see, but other than that, more than one-half of this Cadillac appears fairly straight.

Just one engine could be had in the de Ville for ’69, but when it’s a 472 V8 with 375 HP and 572 lb-ft of torque, who needs options?  This is the sole photo provided from under the hood, and unfortunately, the large motor is not currently running.  The last year sticker on the license plate is from 1999, so it’s possible this one hasn’t been operated in more than a quarter of a century.  The seller doesn’t seem to know much about the overall mechanical condition, or whether or not the engine is capable of running, so I’m guessing some wrenching will be in store for the next owner, or maybe a rebuild.

Looking around the interior, most of the components seem to still be in fairly good shape, with the condition of the seats making the 31k-mile claim believable.  Just a thorough inside-and-outside cleaning would make this car look a whole lot better, and if the engine repair is simple, this one may not be all that far away from becoming a driver.  However, I hope the next owner goes deeper and chooses to turn this one into something beyond that.  Is this 1969 Cadillac Coupe de Ville one you’d be interested in taking on as a project?

Looks pretty good from what I see here. Restoring this one back to factory spec would be a labor of love
that’s for sure. And if the 472 isn’t locked up, it should be a straightforward project for the right
Caddy lover out there. If I had the space and cash to do it, I’d be the first to take it on. But that 5K BIN is
a bit steep for a non running car. Maybe the folks at Caddy Girl Garage
will see it and take it home 🏡

I shared one with a co-worker. He was going through a divorce and needed a car. It was $800.00 and he only had 4. I loaned him the other 4 with the caveat that I got to drive it until he paid me back. For 60 days I got to sit on a comfy couch and watch the world go by on the big screen windshield. It was white, blue vinyl top and interior. Either by purpose or just age, it was sitting about 2″ lower than stock but flat. It looked good, ran smooth, with the notorious GM tick tick tick in the engine.

One thing that might need to be repaired is the bottom of the front fender, Cadillacs of this vintage no matter their origin have a cancer issue. Not bad to fix depending on the problem and your method of repair.

As Meat Loaf said, “There ain’t no Coupe DeVille at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box! This and an Eldorado are the only Daddy’s that I would be interested in the pre-park bench bumper era. Give me that 472-500 cubes of torque please.

I think of all my Cadillacs I have owned, I liked that steering wheel best because it was the only year Cadillac that had the horn inlay around the wheel. Your thumbs could always activate the horn with a squeeze.
Many other things with the 69 were a real set back with me though, especially compared to my many 65,s.

Lovely looking car. My late aunt and uncle had a 1969 Sedan deVille. Most likely my uncle did most of the driving Since it’s been forever since I’d seen the car, I can’t remember what the colour was. I hope this car goes to a good owner, someone able to have it working and driving again. 🙂
