One-Owner Survivor: 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Many enthusiasts place a high priority on originality and a long-term ownership history when searching for a classic to park in their garage. It typically means that the car in question has been treated respectfully, reducing the chances that it could harbor nasty surprises. This 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 ticks those boxes and is a turnkey survivor that would provide pride for its new owner. The seller has listed the Z28 here on eBay in Collierville, Tennessee. Bidding currently sits below the reserve at $11,000 with plenty of time remaining on the auction.

Chevrolet’s Second Generation Camaro was reaching the end of its production life by 1980, with the company limiting any cosmetic changes as it prepared its replacement for release in 1982. A new rear-facing hood scoop was the most obvious change for this model year, with the grille, side scoops, and the graphics also receiving attention as a relatively cheap way of refreshing the badge’s aging appearance. The owner ordered this Z28 in Code 11 White with contrasting tri-tone Blue stripes and graphics. The listing seems to indicate that the Camaro may have undergone a repaint at some point, but the wording is slightly vague on that matter. However, the paint shines, the graphics are crisp, and there are only a few minor cosmetic chips and marks. The seller doesn’t mention the presence of rust, and I see nothing in the supplied photos suggesting existing or previous problems. I like the color-matched 15″ wheels, which provide a more integrated appearance than the Gray wheels that were also available to Z28 buyers.

The Blue theme set by the exterior graphics continues inside this Camaro, with the upholstered surfaces featuring vinyl in Dark Blue. The plastic and carpet are color-matched, providing an environment that would feel pleasant on any journey. This Camaro’s interior is impressive for an unrestored survivor, with no significant wear or signs of UV deterioration. The gauges feature clear lenses and crisp markings, and the CD player is the only visible aftermarket addition. The owner didn’t splash a lot of cash on creature comforts, with this interior featuring the standard Z28 gauge cluster, air conditioning, and a tilt wheel.

One notable change to the Camaro range for 1980 was the company’s decision to limit the 350ci V8 to the Z28 variant. A four-speed manual was the standard transmission, although this car’s owner teamed the three-speed automatic with power assistance for the steering and brakes to create a relaxing driver. The small-block was a shadow of its former self by 1980, a fact that is reflected by the power output figures quoted in that year’s Sales Brochure. The motor placed 190hp at the driver’s disposal, confirming that this Z28 would be more comfortable on the freeway than the local drag strip. The seller states that the Camaro runs and drives extremely well, and is ready to provide the winning bidder with immediate classic motoring joy.

This 1980 Camaro Z28 is an impressive survivor with no apparent needs. It isn’t perfect, but that could be its greatest strength. It will allow the new owner to hit the road for a good slice of classic motoring fun, safe in the knowledge that an occasional errant stone won’t mar a pristine classic. The listing statistics confirm that it has struck a chord with potential buyers, and it will be fascinating to see how high the bidding climbs during the final days.

This must have been a popular color combo. I remember seeing several of them back when they were new, and liking it.

I remember quite a few that were white with blue stripes too. My older brother wanted one of these very badly. And if I remember he really wanted white with blue stripes and blue interior. Its a great color combination on these Z28s. I liked them then when they came out and still do now.

Some of the best 🎨 paint and decal treatments you’ll ever see from the factory on this era Z28. They picked up the look somewhat again w the flashy IrocZ model. Some great combinations available.

Looking at that takes me back to my high school days. A blast from the past, and in very fine condition for a vehicle of that vintage. Somebody’s gonna be very happy with it.

Great looking Camaro. Without any real competition from AMC or Chrysler the remaining pony cars flourished. These were everywhere and it’s good to see the nice ones still out there. What may be even better are the uplifting comments unlike the carrying on in ’72 442 post.

Always liked these. I worked on them new. Gutless engines, but you looked cool on the road. Just can’t figure out why these routinely sell for far more than almost any 78 to 80 Corvette.

I owned this exact color-scheme in a 1981 but it came with T-tops and I don’t remember it being this “white”. Going by the one photo with the driver’s door open it looks like the paint has a sort of yellow cast which would be Code 12. I’m fairly positive this car’s been re-painted in Summit White/Performance White which actually contains a blue toner in the formula, and it is extremely bright compared to the other. It looks like they thought they could get by without painting the door jambs and you can’t. We tried it at owner request on an SS Monte Carlo, and it had the same effect. If so, it’s an extremely nice car but not a survivor.
