One Quick Truck! 1956 Ford F-100

This 1956 Ford F-100 is said to be the last hot rod that the 81-year-old seller is going to build. While it’s not quite finished, many good parts and components have been used. As the seller says, “If you like going fast, you’ll love my truck!” Let’s see what it would take to finish this cool project.

A ’56 F-100 is a pretty neat truck in the first place. Obviously, this one isn’t stock, so if you’re looking for a restoration this isn’t your truck. On the other hand, this generation of Ford pickup may well have more custom than stock trucks left! The stance on this one is provided courtesy of Mustang II front suspension, which was fitted along with rack and pinion steering, power disc brakes, and traction bars (in the rear). The four cool-looking aluminum wheels are augmented with a pair of drag tires on steel wheels in case you want to try the truck out on the strip.

The bed of the truck has also been nicely done with wood that looks slightly aged. I’m guessing the round cap is for a fuel tank. The primer look can be left if that’s what you want, but the seller says he’s in ill health and that’s why it’s not painted yet. Personally, gloss black would look best to me, like Chip Foose’s truck.

The interior would look good with a black truck as well. It looks ready to go as is and has had some gauges added as well as that nice upholstery. Even the glass is new, including a vent window removal kit (ok, I’m old-fashioned, but why would someone remove perfectly good vent windows? I’m thinking about using GT6 vent windows to add them to my Spitfire).

There’s a 468-cubic-inch Chevrolet V-8 in this Ford, and it features Corvette heads, raised compression, a performance camshaft, roller rockers, and TRW pistons. That’s an 800 cfm Edelbrock carburetor on top. The F-100 is equipped with an automatic transmission and a Currie 9″ limited-slip rear end. How do you feel about finishing this hot rodder’s vision? Let us know in the comments after you’ve visited the ad here on eBay. Bidding is up to $26,000 but has yet to meet the reserve. The seller also has a 1948 Oldsmobile for sale that he purchased from Steve McQueen!

Why? Why? Oh, now I remember.
The junk yards are full of them, they’re cheap and it bolts right in.
This one is not for me. Moving on…..

The junkyards aren’t full of 469 big blocks. Just sayin’

I guess you’re right, Brian. I didn’t even know cheebie made a 469 big block. Learn something new everyday.

Why? Because it’s cool and I dig it. It beats the hell out of an undrivable stocker. Sad to hear it’s the sellers last hot rod.

I own an “undrivable stocker”. Fortunately, nobody told me, so I have driven it all over the state- including fishing, camping, dirt biking trips. Hope you don’t mind, but I’m going to continue to drive my truck as built.

You don’t drive it in my state. You’d never be able to merge on the highway. And I don’t mind that you drive your stocker, just don’t be in front of me.

I’ll avoid saying anything that’ll get the “hot rod” builders all upset. And just say “Nope.”

My hat is off to you sir. At 81 you saved the best for last. I enjoyed see the pictures on the eBay listing of what you built. My only concern is if that chain between the engine and the frame is rated. I think that chain is going to get a work out.

Nice truck. Garbage engine. If you want a GM engine build a GM. No Ford should ever have a GM engine. It is called being cheap!

In the late 50s and 60s many of these trucks had Chrysler hemi engines, my Brother in law put one in his 53. lots of engine room under the hood

He probably removed the vent windows because he got tired of the wind whistling into the cabin.

I typically keep Ford in Ford, Chevy in Chevy, and Mopar in Mopar, but, I would love to finish this truck, I think it’s an awesome start to an awesome project.

We put a $40,000 computerized electric drive system in each of three custom built vintage double decker buses that we fabricated for EPCOT/World Showcase back in 1982. The Disney “Imagineers” didn’t have any issues about not keeping a 1920s vintage Daimler, Leyland or Yellow Coach bus drive train original…. 😉

(They also had interchangeable power sources: slide out the 48VDC/500A power pack under the hood and slide in a Perkins four cylinder diesel driving an enormous alternator. The grille shell was side hinged to facilitate the swap.)

It doesn’t bother me that there’s a Chevy engine in a Ford truck, heck when I was a teenager in the 60’s everybody was doing that kind of stuff, like putting Cadillac engines in anything you had. But those ugly dog eared tail lights must go. They were ugly when new and even uglier now. One of my 6 brothers had a 55 f-100 back in the day and he ripped those ugly taillights off and molded taillights from a 40’s Chevy into the rear roll pan and it looked great. His was white with red I
Tuck n roll interior, but I’m partial to candy apple green on these trucks. But I hate black interiors as they are always hot in the summer and cold in the winter so that would have to go with dark green and white pig skin pleated seat and dash with green carpet. Well that’s the way I’d do it anyway. Sad to see another old fart giving up but that’s how life is.

That ford in ford argument went out the window years ago. How many SBC are in 20s. 30s, and 40s fords. Not cheap just a good idea.

If I hadn’t dropped twenty-six large on my Jesse Rooke Swift bike I’d be in the hunt on this one. Somewhat nicer than my first F100, bought off a used car lot back line in 1970/71 for $40. At 78 would still have to hang another pedal and trans.

Old school hot rod, complete with the “blue dot” taillights. Like johnmloghry said, we used what we had as a donor powerplant-Pontiac 421, MoPar 413 with crossrams, etc.
A good friend has a truck very much like this with an old Chevy 327 which turns into an interesting conversation at the local auto parts box store when the kid behind the counter on the computer tries to correct Mike about what parts he needs for the drivetrain.
Nice ride, other than the paint it’s a great project with the hard stuff already done.

Looks good at first glance. I’ve always had a thing for 56 Ford pickups, I own a beauty. A few flaws with this one though, mainly that thing under the hood, that belongs in something carrying it’s namesake, I’ve grown weary of this kind of crap. Anyway, the writer says the bed was beautifully done. Take a closer look

I’d miss those vent windows too. Also unfortunate about the chebbieitis.

Nice for Ford pick’em up though. Lots of work in this one.

I know that kinda motor is strong. I put a 468…which is a 30 overbore 454 in my orange 86 Chevy longbed. That thing would fly. I like big blocks. I like them better in Chevy trucks. It’s America….if we all liked the same thing…she sure would be sore.

Very cool 😎 truck! My favorite year. I’m a diehard FORD Man. And even with the GM power, I’d be interested. Sell or trade the for a sweet big block FORD, and enjoy it just like it is in honor of the Man who built it!!

I have had and built six of these F-100’s and this one is a steal at 26 K. The last one I was a 53 that was basically this same truck except it had a 390 Ford and all cosmetics Paint detailing etc. I sold it for 60 K, and to tell the truth I would rather have this one. Trying to keep a build as nice as the day you finished it, can really take the fun out of owning it

What freaking difference does it make about the power plant, maybe that’s what the owner wanted, maybe that’s all they had to work with, if ya don’t like it don’t buy it, find something else to complain about. Barn finds deleted my other post.
