1970 was a fine year for most muscle cars, and Chevrolet truly hit a home run in that marketplace with their Chevelle Super Sport to begin the new decade.  When the urge hits to take on a muscle project, it’s doubly good to find one that checks a lot of the right boxes from the factory plus also comes with its original mechanical components, and even better when one of those parts is a 4-speed manual transmission.  That’s the case with this 1970 Chevelle SS  here on eBay in Everest, Kansas, and although there’s lots of work to be done, the positives seem to outweigh the negatives here.

While this one will certainly require extensive body work, some excellent news is that the exterior appears to be almost complete.  At this point, it may make more sense to replace both quarters, as they appear to have enough rust that repairs might be impractical.  One interesting fact pointed out by the seller is that this Chevelle is an Arlington-produced example, with the outer corners of the hood and trunk stripes originally squared off at the factory rather than rounded as on most, so it might be fun to preserve that feature when this one gets resprayed.  Some of the early Kansas-manufactured 1970 Chevelles also came with these unusual-shaped stripes.

Though it’s a real plus that the 396 is original to the car, it looks like many seasons have passed since it was last operational, and the seller says he couldn’t get the crank to turn by hand.  It’ll definitely need to be torn into and inspected, but as long as the block is OK, rebuilding this one is the best way to go here.  Other than its presence, there’s no specific information listed about the transmission, but it’s probably time for it to receive a thorough going-through as well.

New upholstery and a fresh set of door panels will be needed inside, and the seller reports that the floors and trunk pan will also need to be replaced, along with one section of the rear frame on the driver’s side.  This Chevy undoubtedly needs lots of work in many areas, but for someone with a strong skill set, this one certainly seems worth the effort.  Is this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS the muscle car project you’ve been waiting for?

This is the same seller whose 1968 Firebird with the 400, 4spd and bench seat was featured earlier today.

If forced, I’d choose the Firebird over this Chevelle SS.
