Original 427/4-Speed: 1969 Chevrolet Corvette

Besides a handful of minor cosmetic changes and wider wheels, the 1969 Corvette didn’t look much different from the previous model, but few changes were needed, since Chevrolet had already hit a home run with the new third-generation two-seater in 1968.  The car not only looked great outside, but several exciting engine options were also available, with this 1969 Chevrolet Corvette here on eBay retaining its original big block and 4-speed manual transmission.  It’s a project, but if you’ve been searching for a C3 to bring back to life, this one might be worth a look.  Located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, this ‘Vette comes with a buy-it-now price of $32,750.  Curvette, thanks for your excellent tip here!

A small block was standard in the Corvette for 1969, and it was powerful enough to satisfy most buyers.  However, stepping up to a big block was also an option, and it’s hardly bad news that this is the tamest one available.  It’s the L36 version and numbers-matching, featuring a factory horsepower rating of 390 and a whopping 460 lb-ft of torque.  The engine isn’t currently running, but the seller states that it will turn freely, and the bay appears to be in good order except for a missing fan shroud.  It’s a plus that the transmission is a 4-speed manual, which is also said to be original to this car.

It’s not obvious from the exterior’s appearance now, but the seller notes that this one left the factory with the desirable Monza Red paint.  We don’t get much detailed information about the car’s history, but the fiberglass appears to have been wearing primer for years, and there’s going to be some smoothing out ahead for the next owner before this one’s ready for a respray.  Thankfully, the birdcage, windshield frame, and frame are all noted as solid, so hopefully most of the needed repairs will be on the body.

There aren’t many details given about the interior either, but it’ll require a good refresh as well, plus a few parts, such as door panels and at least part of the console.  One item addressed here is the steering column, which is listed as needing a rebuild, but the gauges seem to be in pretty good cosmetic shape and may be salvageable.  Lots of time and work will be in store for the buyer, but as an original big-block and 4-speed example, it’s probably well worth the effort.  Is this 1969 Chevrolet Corvette one you’d consider taking on as a project?

Sidepipes look great on these vettes. The luggage rack comes in handy too.
