Original and Uncut: 1968 Ford Bronco

According to the ad, this 1968 Ford Bronco is an original un-cut example with a fairly solid body and frame. The first generation Broncos featured styling which had the rear quarter panel openings smaller than the front. This led a lot of owners to cut the rear openings to fit larger wheels and tires. Finding an original Bronco that isn’t cut is becoming harder. While there replacement rear panels available, they are only original once. This Bronco can be found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $4,000. Located in Westport, Massachusetts, you’ll need a trailer to take this one home. Read more to find out why. Thanks to Barn Finds reader AMXBrian for giving us the tip on this project.

The cargo area of this Bronco has been well used but doesn’t appear too far gone. The ad does state that the owner has new rocker panels included with the sale, so that indicates at least some rust is present. The top is said to be in good condition and there are some spare parts included in the sale.

The engine is a straight-six backed by a three speed transmission. For some reason, the engine and transmission has been pulled and the ad doesn’t indicate the current condition of either. As you can see above, the engine appears to be clean and stock. Perhaps the seller will have more information.

The interior looks original and in decent shape. Overall, this project seems pretty solid. The main concern is the seller indicates it is sold on a bill of sale only and has no title. Depending on where you live, this can be a deal-breaker. If this seems like a good project for you, it seems like a good one. What do you think? Let us know.

No title is an issue in most cases. Really disappointing so many hurdles are set in place by bureaucracies. If there is no report on the VIN regarding theft or salvage, issue a darn title…

I am surprised he is not asking over $20,000.

Amazing looking Bronco. I love mine and it not this amazing old one. They look sweet all done if I had this one I would restore the inside of it but I would drop a 5.7 Cummings in it.

Alex, do you mean a 5.9 Cummins? are you sure a 5.9 Cummins would fit? I’m rather certain it won’t fit in a International Scout II so I can’t imagine it would fit in a Bronco.

Yeah, a 5.9 won’t fit in this. A few guys have done the 4BTs and they fit well but shake like a dog poopin peach seeds.

I had a 68 identical to this right down to the 6 banger. Mine was a little rougher as it was my strictly off road mud vehicle. If I remember right the early first generation Broncos had vacuum wipers which were a pain, low RPMs slow higher RPMs faster. My 73 was a much nicer rig and a V8. I see he has the divider panel to add a short top to make it a half cab and it looks like it was a rear seat delete so original owner might have bought it strictly for hunting or farm use. Only my 73 had the rear fender wells cut and I like the look, even Ford has got it right now with the new version having matching front and rear openings.

This one has those vacuum wipers you had such fond memories of. Mine is an early ’69 and it had them when we bought it too.

Bulkhead would be the name of the panel you speak of. I believe these were or are referenced to delivery or ranch models. Rural areas around here chose them over the jeeps.

Funny story. A nurse I knew in San Diego had a gorgeous fully restored 60’s Bronco her gearhead father have her. I asked if it had 4wheel drive and she said yes, but had never used it because she did not know how. I told her the next time she saw her dad, have him explain and show her how lockout hubs work.

The oooooga horn on the left front fender tub is worth the price of admission.

Had a ’57 Chev w/ vacuum wipers with a 327 and a “30-30” cam: no vacuum due to huge overlap. Had to get off the gas to get them to swipe.

I think maybe you should look at the pics before you think solid body. Door posts, floors, rockers, bed, and inner fenders all look rotten. And thats just the parts you can see.

Love these little Broncos, now where did I leave my check book? Oh that’s right there’s no money in that account, bummer.

When my Dad put a 1967 200 cubic inch 6 in his 61 Falcon which had vacuum wipers he got a electric vacuum pump from J.C. Whitney. They did have a few usefull items. wipers still slowed down some but not as bad as without.

1s worse’n this have been brought back (took 3 to make mine in ’83).
This 1 still has the removable window frames (drill out later models) so w/top off & windshield dropped on that clip nothing is higher’n the steer. wheel. I put a ’78 tilt in so can go under some pretty low branches (bellybutton/chest hi).

Next up is to retire it frm 30 yr woods wrk ‘truck’ to my daughter w/a 250/NV3550 as DD/play vehicle…

    Thanks 2 “Brian” & “MD” ! Looks like a nice Autolite/Motorcraft 1100.

The only way to truly tell would be to see the first 3 digits of the vin.

U14 would be halfcab but I’m bettin this is a U15 fullcab delivery model.
