Within my limited circle of automotive enthusiasts who track the ups and downs of the collector vehicle marketplace, there’s a strong sentiment that things are a bit soft right now. Now, at some level with this happens, the buyers and sellers are unaffected, certainly among the billionaire set. But when you begin looking at vehicles that are more attainable to a larger pool of buyers, weakness becomes more evident. This FJ60-series Toyota Land Cruiser may be one of the nicest to come to market in recent years, with the seller claiming here on eBay that it still wears original paint. Bidding seems a bit light at the moment, however, especially for a no reserve auction.

While many auctions tend to only heat up in the final moments, I’m still surprised to see this Land Cruiser sitting at $5,300 – and the seller may be a little worried about letting it go with no reserve. This Land Cruiser is not only an incredible survivor that is being sold with its original window sticker and factory body panels still in place, but it’s also the preferred 5-speed manual. The FJ60 is as durable as they come, and with just 113,000 original miles, it’s hardly broken in. I had my doubts about the paint finish being original, but the seller seems quite confident that it is.

The Land Cruiser is one of those vehicles that seems more susceptible than most to market fluctuations. Not the late model V8 trucks, which were essentially the end of the line before Toyota overhauled the model entirely; those will always be worth some money. But when the model is being bought solely by collectors or adventure-seekers, it seems more likely to have the price rise or fall due to market cross-winds. In general, the 60-series rigs may be threatened by its next-generation sibling. The later 80 Series is available for about the same money and in far greater quantities, and is a bit more user-friendly as a daily driver. There’s no denying, however, that this Land Cruiser is practically perfect inside, with mint condition upholstery.

Seeing details like these just makes me warm inside: a factory tool roll in unused condition, with all tools accounted for. There is so much evidence that the single owner this truck has been with since new was detail-obsessed. According to the listing, it slept in a warm shop every night, much like a loyal four-legged companion. The 4.2L inline-six engine offers a humble 135 horsepower and 210 lb.-ft. of torque, which is reason enough to be excited that this truck has the manual transmission. Will the final days of this auction see the price blow up to an appropriate level? Only time will tell. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Jack for the find.

Super clean. As of 27 Sept 2:45PM it’s at $12,100. Still light as you pointed out earlier Jeff for one of these in such great shape according to what we’re seeing here. As has been said time and again here Toyota made a well executed counterpart to the Jeep (and Land Rover) in these. Have to say though anyone would defy you to compare the modern contemporaries to the original idea insofar as ease of repair and upkeep.
But then for everything we get we have to give up something so the question comes down to whether whatever we’re gaining is worth what we’re having to give up.
Even though I am a former Land Rover owner and big fan of the marque, there is a joke that even I laugh at:
“If you want to go to the remotest corners of the outback, take a Land Rover. If you want to come back from there as well, take a Land Cruiser.”
Godzilla…. I love that line…..
““If you want to go to the remotest corners of the outback, take a Land Rover. If you want to come back from there as well, take a Land Cruiser.”
Thats funny…..
Crazy that FJ60 came up local here in Oregon about a month ago and was 2500.00 I have a friend that has been looking for one since he saw mine. It lasted on Facebook market place about 15 min.
It looks like the buyer picked it up just to flip as it still has the Oregon plates but it has a WA title now.
Snooze you lose the guy made over 20 K on his truck and probably gave it away at that price
