Original Paint Survivor: 1967 Porsche 911

In case you were wondering, bidding has taken off to the proverbial moon for this 1967 Porsche 911, and it’s easy to see why: not only is this one-owner example, but it wears original paint in perhaps one of the best colors ever to grace an air-cooled 911 – Tangerine. This seller routinely brings special 911s to the market, but I do think this is one of the best they’ve ever offered. Complete in every way with numbers matching across the board, expect to see a big number when the bidding wraps up. Find the 911 here on eBay with bids to $65,000 and the reserve currently unmet.

In many ways, we’ve forgotten how incredible an un-messed with 911 is. To be honest, I’ve become more accustomed to seeing them appear as fully restored examples than as survivors. And even though I can’t ever point to any one detail that isn’t “right” about those restored cars, they’re just not the same. Something gets lost in the spray booth, and certainly, if it’s been resto-modded, nothing is the same as the car that rolled off the lot. The simple fact that this 911 rides on standard suspension with the factory-spec Fuchs wheels is perhaps the best thing this car has going for it outside of its incredible paint job.

There are no sport seats inside, nor is there a tidy 3-spoke steering wheel. This was how the 911 came if you didn’t step up to the pricey options, and for once, I am relieved not to see sport seats inside. If you wanted to go back in time and experience a 911 as the original owner of this car did in 1967, this is one of the only ways to do it. The fact that is has a black interior versus beige or…beige is a relief, because a tan interior is about the only thing that could have let this car down (and I say that as someone who owns a car with a Pearl Beige cockpit – the car would be worth an easy $3,000-$5,000 more with black leather.) The seller confirms the leather surfaces are original to the car.

The 1967 911 came with a 2.0L flat-six, another authentic part of the recipe. It was not a high-powered machine, and while the “S” trim certainly added a nice bump in horsepower, this car made do with 130 horsepower and 129 lb-ft of torque, which was more than enough for most drivers. It sounds like a 911 should and handles like a 911 should, and when you get to experience a car in its purest form, you’re reminded that the engineers behind it did, indeed, know what they were doing. This is likely one of the best examples of an air-cooled long-hood to come to the market in some time, and it deserves every penny it gets.

Beautiful car however the suspension is not set up correctly. Looks like a 4WD! Ha ha ha

Correct you are. Usually it’s putting on gas shocks that causes the high riding as resetting the suspension is a bit of a chore. You’ve got to pull the rear torsion bars out and redo the adjustments up front to get this. We had 911s come in the shop with all sorts of replacement shocks that never should have been put on the cars.

This is investment grade. Worth whatever you have to or can pay. Original paint on a Porsche is everything. EVERYTHING! The California part is perfect. The color is iconic. INSANE! The only issue is driving it too much. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Also very very nice video presentation. And a huge nod to the owner who clearly loved the car, and knew how to keep it true.

Also regarding the suspension, I think that is a factory setting to be shipped to the US. We had different bumper standards, and most folks lower them to look better and truer to the original design feel. I have lowered several back in the day. Also 1967 was an amazing year for Porsche design and the next stage kinda is not as iconic.

Terrible listing for an amazing car. Photos are completely washed out not representative of the actual fantastic color. No information on running/driving condition (we can assume it’s great but…) This is potentially a $200K car, deserves a proper listing. Fortunately theres this which should be linked in the crappy Ebay listing. https://youtu.be/MoEEQzxPf3M

Bidding is up to $68150. Obviously the selling dealer thought it would be easier and cheaper to sell this special car on eBay rather than Hemmings, where it would more easily reach this car’s more knowledgeable, deep-pocketed audience.

It’s listed on Hemmings and is no where near the price currently on Ebay needed to buy this car. On BAT I’d suspect it would likely sail over $100K in no time. Green gauge, SWB in original paint Tangerine. That spells unicorn.
