Original Survivor: 1956 Chevrolet Pickup

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

If you’ve always wanted a solid truck to cruise around in or a fun parts runner/shop truck, this 1956 Chevrolet might be the one for you.  It can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $10,000. The truck is currently located in Audubon, Minnesota, but spent most of its life in Montana. In fact, it still wears the Montana plates from Valley county in the north east part of the state. Let’s take a closer look at this truck and see if it’s what you always wanted.

The interior looks all original. Obviously, the seat foam and upholstery will need to be addressed. The door panels, dash and floors are metal, so this truck will definitely be on the noisy side. Speaking of floors, they look very solid.

The only information in the ad about the engine is that it is a V8 that starts up and “runs good.” Like the rest of the truck, it looks very original. If you know what size this engine is, leave us a comment.

Overall, this is a really cool looking truck. The Cordova Red top and wheels look pretty good against the beige paint. There isn’t much rust and it appears very solid. Hopefully, it will get a second-chance to serve the next owner the same way it has the previous owners. What do you think of this truck?

I love it! And, I might add, I covet it. If this came my way, I’d clean it up and detail it the best I could then run it for a while. It would eventually get a full driver-quality restoration. That would likely be a 265 under the hood. I think that Chevy used the 265 into ’57 with the 283 being an option. A 265 would take me anywhere I wanted to go and bring me back.

Less than a half hour since the post, eBay listing is pulled. From what my old eyes can see, this is a pretty solid original appearing truck. I’m not a fan of “patina” but other than re-do the seat, I’d be inclined to pretty much leave this as is.

Although these trucks can be very nice, I prefer the Ford of same vintage.

We have a 57 like this that came from Oklahoma. Totally rust free. It had a non show quality paint job and the seat had been redone. It looks like a show truck now the paint has been wet sanded and buffed. We recently installed a 350 engine, 5 speed manual transmission, AC, power steering and brakes along with a gas tank under the new oak bed. We have way more invested than it would sell for. But we love it and plan to keep it and drive the wheels off of it.

It’s a 265cid V8. For the 1955 & 56 Chevy had introduced the SBC and for the first year of the introduction it came without a oil filter.

Yes, the 56 Chevy Truck had a 265 V-8 engine with a two barrel carb and a oil bath air cleaner. They also had a Oil Filter canister that was on the drivers side of the engine at the rear. New for that year as 1955 265’s had an optional oil filter up on the intake manifold. 57 Chevy trucks also used the 265 as the 283 wasn’t an option in light duty trucks until 1958.

If it is a ’56, it has a ’55 hood emblem. The ’56’s had the emblem on the ridge instead of above the ridge and was wider.

My ’56 has the same “flying V” on top of the hood.

You’re correct. The fender emblems say 56, while the hood says 55.
