Original Survivor: 1968 Pontiac Firebird

The owner of this 1968 Pontiac Firebird claims that not only is he only the car’s third owner, but that it is completely original and unrestored. If this is true, then it is a nice survivor that anyone would be happy to have parked in their driveway. After starting its life in Utah, the Firebird is now located in Keller, Texas. You will find the Firebird listed for sale here on eBay, and while the bidding has reached $15,150, the reserve hasn’t been met.

Finished in Verdoro Green with a Black Cordova top, the Firebird is an extremely attractive car. The details and photos supplied by the owner are a bit sparse, but what can be seen looks quite promising. The paint appears to have a nice consistent shine to it, the vinyl top looks like it is in good condition, while there are no obvious signs of rust. The chrome and trim all look like they are in great condition, while the car is fitted with tinted glass.

When the original owner was ordering the Firebird, they bit the bullet and handed over an additional $114.80 for the custom trim pack in gold. This has survived nicely, with no issues to report. In addition, they also ticked the boxes beside the auxiliary gauge cluster, the console, the radio with rear speaker, clock, visor mirror, and air conditioning. This is a person who knew precisely what they wanted.

What makes this Firebird more special is that the original owner chose the combination of the 400ci V8 engine, Turbo Hydramatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. While the owner doesn’t actually specify that this is a numbers-matching car, the fact that he describes the car as being all original would suggest that it is. Once again, details are scarce, but the owner does state that the car runs great. With 330hp on tap, that isn’t really surprising, and what we can see under the hood does appear to be quite neat and clean.

This is one of those cars that leaves you wanting more. This isn’t because it isn’t a great car, but because the owner is not forthcoming with a lot of detail. What he does supply is a copy of the original order sheet for the car, and it alone makes fascinating reading. I mean, in this age when we take electronics so for granted, it is amazing to consider that when the Firebird was new, the optional radio cost exactly twice the cost of the full tinted glass option. It just shows how things have changed over the past 51-years.

Be careful if you’re the winning bidder. While it might not be this seller screams possible scammer to me. Brand new ebayer, zero feedback, very poor and lazy description. The only thing that says to me it might not be a scam is that it has a reserve and that reserve hasn’t been met at $15k.

Invoice mentions rear antenna. I don’t see any antenna. Otherwise a flaming bargain if it requires no major expenses. Paint, interior, vinyl top, chrome all appear excellent.

Sure looks like a nice car would like a manual but the auto would be fine I even really like the color! NICE!

Had one similarly optioned Convertible 400 THM. darker (greener) green 67. Sold it to go to graduate school . Keeping the bird would have been a better investment. Who knew. When I bought the bird I chose it over a 67 427 Vette convertible. One just like it is at Bowling Green. Talk about a series of bad decisions

Love the car but that steering wheel won’t be cheap to repair / replace.
