This is one incredible truck and it has been owned by the same family since new. It’s hard to argue with the condition and who doesn’t like a black on black pickup? This super survivor is listed here on Bring a Trailer as an auction and there is less than one day left to get your bids in. It’s located in Manheim, Pennsylvania and the current bid price is $7,600.
This truck is beautiful, but I could be biased, we had a 1969 Ford F-250 Ranger Camper Special growing up and this era of Ford truck brings back so many great memories. This is a sixth-generation F-150 and they were made for the 1973 to 1979 model years before Ford designers got their straightedges out and redesigned things for the next year.
This Raven Black beauty was sold new in Georgia and remained in the same family until this year, 2020, when it was sold by the original owner’s daughter to a dealer who now has it listed for sale. It has just under 100,000 miles on it. They say that the inside of the bed was painted at some point by the previous owner. I don’t see a flaw in this truck.
The interior is more black, this time vinyl and it has been redone at some point according to the seller. We also had black vinyl seats in our orange 1969 Ford F-250 and it was a nice brocade-like pattern, but man was it hot and uncomfortable in the summer. This F-150 has factory AC as ours did, but this one is nicely-integrated, unlike our cobbled-together, leaky AC. Clearly, in the period from 1969 to 1977, Ford had figured out how to do AC right.
The condition of this truck overall is almost mind-blowing, but it just keeps coming. This clean engine is Ford’s 460 cubic-inch V8 with a four-barrel carburetor, which by 1977 was down to 220-horsepower. The seller has performed a general inspection and this sure looks like a winner. Have any of you owned a sixth-generation F-Series Ford pickup? Any thoughts on this one?
A lot of BaT offerings on here lately. I follow them over there – no need for duplication 😀
Nothing wrong with that. I’m holding out for a 1988 blue Caravan with fake woodie sides.
Keep ’em coming!
Very generous comment, Scotty–“before Ford designers got their straightedges out and redesigned things for the next year.” I still feel that the 1980 F-150 was the ugliest redesign ever! And I for one like seeing the BaT offerings here at BF, as most of BaT is European stuff i have little interest in and this saves me time.
Did I miss something – did you get bought out by
BringaTrailer?
Many of us look at both sites daily.I’d rather see
different vehicles here, rather than the same ones as the
other site.
@angliagt- No, we did not get bought out. It was just a coincidence that we had a few in a day. Thanks.
A very nice F150, for sure. The condition is pretty exceptional and black finish really sets off the bright trim well. A/C is a big plus, especially for a truck where just about everything is black. I like it but I wouldn’t be interested in a big-block; too hard on fuel for my budget. I’m sure it will fetch a good price though, it’s a beauty.
Looks decent but the 460 was a very heavy paper weight in this form and you can expect around 6 mph average certainly better engines in this application.
I had a new 77 Ranger XLT hard loaded with the 460 black on red , Fantastic truck . Still miss it .
😃I HAVE A 1 OWN. 68 F250 CAM. SPEC,
DOVE 429, C6 CAST TAIL HOUSEING, ALL REBUILT, NO MILIAGE, PAINT BLACK OVER FACTORY BLUE, BLACK INTERIOR SITTING ON BLOCK’S UNDER COVER 4 35 yrs, BRING A TRAILER👍😎
Real nice F150 for the money!
I don’t mind the redundancy of the BaT postings. I don’t look there, and even if I did, I don’t think scrolling by something that I’d already seen would be too great an imposition.
My first new vehicle was a 1977 F150 4×4. It had a 351 and 4 speed granny gear stick. Only 3 engines available, 300 six, 351M, and 400. Stick not available with 400. Picked it up the same day Star Wars hit the theater.
460 in this will be tough on tires, gas, and impossible to drive in snow.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Whatever you think of the 1980-1996 design, there’s still a lot of them on the road around here, so Ford must have known what it was doing. There’s a early-80s model about four blocks from where I work, still earning its keep as a work truck.
As for these trucks, my father had three–a 1975 360/C6 2wd shortbed, a 1977 F150 4×4, and a 1978 F150 4×4. He sold the ’75 because he wanted four-wheel-drive, and ended up with two–the ’78 was the show truck, and the ’77 was the go truck. All were good trucks.
Incidentally, I believe that the 1973 trucks were the first with in-the-dash factory AC. The 1967-72 trucks all had the underdash unit that could be factory or dealer installed. Our 1969 F100 had it. That was pimping in 1969.
My Father bought an F1 in 48 and my brother has owned F trucks since 1977 he found for towing a 26ft caravan they were much better than a Falcon V8 ute
like that falcon ute w/a 250 x-flow!
