Parked for 25 Years: 1969 Chevrolet Corvette

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1969 Chevrolet Corvette is a desirable spec, featuring a numbers matching 350 paired to a four-speed manual, and equipped with T-tops. Despite this, that hasn’t stopped it from sitting for some time and languishing as a forgotten project, but at least the seller has decided to let it go onto a new owner. The Corvette was sitting for 25 years when acquired by the current owner, but the listing doesn’t specify how long he’s been sitting on it. Find the Corvette here on eBay with bidding to $8,200 and no reserve.

Despite its years of neglect, the Corvette remains a complete car. The interior is all there, and one of the last two owners actually had a set of factory buckets already recovered. It’s a small step, but at least it’s done. The rest of the interior is dirty and tired but not past the point of rejuvenation, and it’s encouraging to see it hasn’t been hacked up with stray wires hanging everywhere, and/or aftermarket parts strewn about. The listing notes it is equipped with power windows and a tilt/telescoping wheel.

The seller doesn’t have a ton of information on the Corvette’s history, but does state that there’s no apparent evidence of prior accident damage. Personally, I would be more concerned with rust in the Corvette’s frame, especially since the car is located in New Jersey, which isn’t known for being kind to cars of this vintage, just like any other northern state. Hopefully, it was stored indoors for those long 25 years, but there’s no way to know without verification of the undersides. The Corvette was last registered in 1990.

The engine bay appears to be mostly complete, with what looks like aftermarket valve covers and air cleaner assembly present. The seller notes it is also a manual steering and brake car, so this is a bit of a stripper as it relates to options. The Corvette was running when parked, but that doesn’t do you much good a few decades later. Still, with a desirable manual gearbox and matching numbers drivetrain, this is certainly a car worth saving if the undersides aren’t completely rotten.

I think there’s more than meets the eyes here meaning the eyes would see more than they bargained for with this Vette.

Birdcage, frame, body to just name a few things that may need some attention before you get to the mechanics and electrical. It has the potential to become a much larger project than many anticipate.

It always amazes me that someone has something to sell yet they don’t have the sense to clean it up a little.

@Mark: I agree 100% and IMO it can be a Seller’s attempt at using a psychological angle hoping that a Buyer will think they have found a diamond in the rough (no username reference intended).

Why bother to clean it up. Golly, it is a numbers matching car. That’s all you need to know to jump on this. (If what I keep reading on this site over and over again is important in making a decision, which it seems to be. )

I believe the paint code on trim tag is for Burgundy, not black. Trim code is black vinyl. The car does has factory A/C, which is nice. I would be worried about rust since it came from New Jersey.

John S is correct on all counts. This car was an a/c car, which I see most of it missing. When I found out the cost to overhaul the a/c on my 73 coupe, I could do half a new kitchen for the wife. Take out the t tops and roll down the windows. Secondly, this heap of crap is from the Jersey shore, salt and humidity, stored on what appears to be bare concrete. All bad. Thirdly, this is no rare car, more than 12,000 L46 cars built for 69 model year. Great engine. A friend has a 70 coupe with a 350 hp and 4.11s. What a thrill to drive. And PNT code 988 is Burgundy. Black would be code 900 and very few were painted black. This is one reason GM canned black paint until 1977 after the 69 model year. I have restored three C3 Corvettes. It is a ton of work. My 73 sat 20 years in New Jersey, but was in a climate controlled garage and still needed thousands spent and time to get it right. My friend with the 70 has $40,000 into that project and has done all the work himself with me assisting. The only thing we haven’t done is paint and machine work for the engine, which was so badly seized from sitting we had to break the pistons out of the block. At $10,000 this is a total waste of money.
