This 1962 Ford Galaxie was driven into a barn in 1979 and that is precisely where it stayed for the next 39 years. Recently emerging into the light of day, it is listed for sale here on Craigslist. The Galaxie is located in Viola, Wisconsin, and the seller has the title in hand. The seller has listed it at $2,900 but gives the impression that they are willing to negotiate on that.
This photo shows the first piece of bad news. Looks like you’ll need to be sourcing a new back window there. The seller states that apart from two small dents the body appears to be in good condition. Scouting around the car from the available photos I think that I can detect a couple of rust spots. The biggest of these is in the driver’s side front fender, but the shot isn’t clear enough to determine how bad it is.
The interior looks quite good to me. The seats, door trims, dash and carpet all look to be in good condition with no obvious rips or tears. The compass on the dash is a rather nice bonus if you are prone to getting lost, but I think that I would lose that fairly quickly. It’s nice to see that the original radio remains in situ, as during the late 1970s removal of these to fit an after-market stereo was very common.
Oh for just one photo of the engine! The seller states that the engine is the 292ci V8 backed by a 3-speed manual transmission with a column shifter. He also states that the engine was rebuilt in 1979 just prior to the car going into storage. Unfortunately, he doesn’t state whether it runs now, or even whether the engine turns freely. However the seller appears to be quite willing to answer any questions, so that would be a good one to ask straight up.
Seeing cars like this emerge from extended slumbers is what Barn Finds is all about. The cars don’t have to be the rarest, the most unusual or the wackiest. It’s cars such as this one that has emerged after sitting alone, unloved, neglected and forgotten for decades that is the foundation of what we’re about. Long may such cars emerge from the dark and continue to fascinate us all.
no underside or engine pics.1 interior shot. $300.00 tops. This thing is seriously sagging. Lots of work.
When a seller chooses to include more upclose and detailed pictures of a dash mounted compass than areas prone it’s not by accident. Too much money for a car with too many unknowns, I’m not sure you would get the straight scoop from the seller.

Looks like the rear springs have come through where the boot floor used to be.
Well.………………the barn looks pretty nifty………….by comparison anyway.
The door on the second floor is kind of scary;-)
What happened to that rear suspension, I wonder.
way back when my parents owned a 63 Galaxie 500 with a similar problem they never looked into fixing it , must be common with these years (????)
low – ri – der
I do love the barn and think it would make an excellent home.
Fix the springs before asking this amount.
How much for the Barn ?
Fix the springs then ask this price.
How much for the Barn ?
WAY too many doors!
Photoshopped barn. Shoulda photoshopped car!
Make a good Mayberry Police car……
Is it my eyes, or is the front seat upholstery blue while the rest of the interior is brown?
He can keep the car!!!, How much for the barn?. I’d disassemble and flatbed it to my location, Could sure use the extra space.
‘First sign of bad news’, yeah, it’s the first side shot and there’s Four doors.
