Parked in ’87! 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

After being dragged into the sunlight for the first time since 1987, this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in Assonet, Massachusetts seeks a new buyer here on eBay. Rusty in places but highly complete and original, this H-code (351 V8) pony car could be simply gone through for safety items, fuel and brakes, and other minimal refurbishing to run as a survivor. That would be interesting and different, but more likely the 13 or more bidders have a deeper investment toward stock restoration in mind. With the market value eclipsing $12,000 (Reserve Not Met), it will be interesting to see where the bidding stops on this New England classic. A matte black hood with hood pins came with the Mach 1 package.

Buyers who ponied up the cash for the Mach 1 package got (at least) the H-code two-barrel 351 cid (5.8L) V8 making 250 HP and 355 lb-ft of torque. An FMX automatic handles the shifting. I’ve driven that combination in a ’72 Mustang, albeit with a four-barrel, and it had plenty of grunt to burn the tires from idle. It’s not every day you find a Mustang from the ’60s or ’70s with a Ford air filter housing. Usually some weekend warrior or high school owner chucked that stock unit in the trash for a chrome department store replacement. Other than maintenance parts like that radiator cap, the engine shows minimal signs of fiddling. Thanks to lov2xlr8 for some details.

The rust monster chewed up the wheel arches, which were rudely unprotected by plastic liners in those days. Call that the tip of the rustberg. Ironically the Indian Fire paint retains some shine. It’s hard to comprehend that I bought my 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 a year after this one was sidelined, and no one has enjoyed this Mach 1 in all that time. I wouldn’t say it out loud in front of my trusty ’89, but the ’69 Sportsroof is my all-time favorite Mustang on styling alone.

The Mach 1 interior looks stock. It’s not perfect, but a person could clean it up and enjoy the character of what is probably the factory upholstery. If the seats’ knit center sections aren’t crumbling into dust, I’d favor an upholstery repair to keep this time capsule as original as possible. What’s your favorite ’60s or ’70s Mustang?

What he said. Thing is with what you can see, can you only imagine what’s still hidden?

States all original and untouched….except it has been repainted, full of bondo, incorrect hood treatment, incorrect fuel cap, and stripes applied way to low. Aside from that, its all original.
