Here’s a guy that buys a new VW bug, drives it for 4 years and decides to do a little body work on it but never finishes it. Now it’s for sale on craigslist for $3,500 in Waterford, Michigan. If the ad is gone you’ll find a copy on Adsavers. It looks like it needs a windshield to make it driveable as well the usual mechanical work. Much of the repair work appears to be have been necessary due to rust damage but the bottom side is said to be in good condition.
The interior appears to be in incredible condition.
Here’s where a lot of the bodywork was done. Even if all the work needs to be redone, the VW still looks like it could be a great deal. This was one of the last great years for Beetles and one of the most popular years for collectors. Even low retail is about $4500 and average retail about $11,000. Nice examples sell for over $20,000. Pictures of the underside and engine would be useful, but it doesn’t look like it would take much to turn this into a really nice Beetle.
Sadly GONE!!!
Somebody got a good buy. I would have jumped on it myself had it been a little closer to me.
Good deal. Solid original interior makes this thing a nice gem. Of course it’s gone by now.
Early VWs are great but the new ones are not as their company lies about emissions and cheats with programming 👀. The diesel scandal took them out of my wheel house for purchasing.
Paid huge fines and lost respect!
The interior was mint in the classic car!
A great deal!
Sometimes it takes something bad for something good to happen.
Decent deal on the VW, I dig the color!
The whole way overblown Diesel episode didn’t do anything to VW’s profit.
Vice versa, they are doing really well.
It may be true that VW is surviving, but gladly Diesel-gate reopened discussions about how deadly diesel emissions are. After years of mis-guided gov’t subsidies, Europe is finally seeing the light.
I bet that’s going to be one happy bug very soon.
Wow! We just recently sold our light blue 66 Beetle in original condition for $12,500 after enjoying her for a few years. The 66 model year had the 1300 engine, only year for that, and these are considered to be the final years for true classic Beetle collectors. Looks to have a more deluxe interior that is in excellent shape, if it’s original. If it came with documentation proving it was original, with original engine, and had truly sat all those years, this could’ve been turned for a nice profit (if that’s your thing). Or great to keep and enjoy. Great color too! I’m not surprised that it sold so quickly.
Lots of old beetles for sale. How many do you want?
