Pile Of Parts And Rust: 1934 Plymouth Coupe

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

At first glance, it’s hard to tell if there’s actually a car in this pile of parts, but look closer and you can see the 1934 Plymouth Coupe buried in there. The seller claims that his wife doesn’t see any value here, so he is on a mission to prove her wrong by selling it on eBay. It seems like a bit of a stretch and perhaps like they aren’t actually going to be selling it at the end of the auction. Given what it is though and that this project includes a Chrysler 330 Hemi engine, it might be worth taking a chance on. You can bid on this pile of parts here on eBay in Parkersburg, West Virginia with a current bid of $510 and a BIN of $18,500.

Piling parts and random junk on the car for the first few photos might seem like a strange choice, but it could actually be a stroke of genius on the seller’s part. Once you see it with everything moved away from the body, you see just how rusty this thing is. And when I say it’s rust, I mean, it’s really rusty. If this were a Ford Coupe the body rust would be of concern, but not that big of an issue since you can buy new body panels or even a brand new complete body. Being a Plymouth though means it might be more difficult to track down new sheet metal to fix this thing. If you can weld and the frame isn’t rusted out, fixing it wouldn’t be impossible, just time-consuming.

Clearly, this car was a hot rod at some point in its past. The wheels and tires would suggest it was still being driven in the ’60s or ’70s, but the seller admits they don’t know any of the car’s history. It currently has a Ford 9 inch rear end under it, with the 1956 Chrysler 330 Hemi sitting in the front with a six-deuce carb setup installed. There doesn’t appear to be a transmission installed with it and there’s no word on whether they found and installed this engine in it or if it was in the car when it was discovered. Either way, the engine’s condition is a complete unknown so expect to be doing a full rebuild.

The seller claims that it was, “drug out of the hollers of West By God, Virginia” and that’s all they seem to know about it’s past. There’s no title for it, simply a bill of sale, so that could prove to be a problem for most of us. Well, that is if the rust doesn’t scare you away and they actually end up letting it go. Hopefully, this isn’t a case of someone listing their project with an unrealistic price in hopes that it doesn’t actually sell. It will be interesting to see what happens with this auction!

That induction set up is pretty sweet. Hemi is probably the only thing of any value here.

I think his wife is right. Other than the Hemi and a few parts this isn’t worth much.

I dig the generous amounts of filler on its rear…there was a fine art to sculpting back then…

Don’t you just hate it, when your wife is smarter than you are, and then you compound it, by trying to prove her wrong. How long has this guy been married? He has allot to learn!

Back in the 50s and 60s 6- 2bbl carb setups were around but not all that common. It took a lot of tuning to get the engine to run properly without drowning it. Never had the occasion to dial in that many carburetors but I did work on outfits with 2 or 3 Stromberg 97s, and later units such as GTOs and 340 Six packs. Not my preference either. I’d rather deal with a 4bbl. The car itself would be a real challenge but for the right person, it might be just the right ticket. It would be nice to see one of these running around than the all-to-common early Fords. Hope someone picks it up and finishes it….

$18,500, really? I’ll give him $50.00 for that old cart! I do love a Hemi, though.

$18K is a bit much! It looks beat, but the seller is providing all that is “: missing” we don’t know how long it has been sitting there, so, wifey must have decided enough is enough .. I see potential.. but, there is a lot of rust to deal with

Ran quickie price check for “useBle body and trim parts, they are out there and not to expensive, as are a couple whole parts ccaars lless costly than this,
Many years ago I seen a few of these with indeed early semi and full hemisphere with multiple carbs running dirt tracks.. The motor with carbs, they look in great shape, would be nice in older style street rods., other than motor not over 2 grand if frame is good.
Learned my body work on these oldies, leading in fenders , no wting, and hours manually hammering sheet metal.
Would not even attempt restore, be buried deeper than a well diggers butt to redo.

A 56 Chrysler Hemi would be a 354cu.in. I believe 54 was the last year for the 331.

The bid ($2600) is about as high as it should go.

Always had a soft spot for the early Hemi’s. Once had a 55 Dodge pickup with an early Desoto Hemi in it. Non-runner when I got it but it was fun once I got it running again. I really don’t think this one will come back without a lot of $$ and effort to do it. If it is, it could be incredible.
