Powerstroke Pickup: 1997 Ford F-250

This Ford F-Series pickup truck may appear to be a low-spec base model (and if you judge it solely by its features, it is), but the powertrain under the hood has turned it into one of the more sought-after models from the middle 90s. This F250 is equipped with a long bed and the venerable 7.3L turbodiesel under the hood, making it a highly desirable work truck. Find the F250 here on eBay with bids to $7,100 and no reserve.

Dog dish hubcaps, white paint, basic bumpers, and a cloth interior all combine to give this F250 the feeling of being a truck from a municipal fleet versus a private vehicle. With the durable turbodiesel engine and an obvious lack of luxury features, it has all the markings of being a truck ordered for fleet purposes. The truck was also registered in Tennessee and Texas previously, making the lack of rust a major selling point.

The interior is as bare-bones as it gets, with a tan (or gray?) cloth interior that is downright mundane and manual features like crank windows and presumably non-power locks. The good news is very little with ever break on this F250, and the long-lived nature of the engine all but ensures this truck will outlast you handily even as it gets up there in years and mileage. It does come with A/C, cruise control, and a cassette deck.

The best news is that the overbuilt turbodiesel engine has only 124,000 miles on the clock, with is absolutely nothing for one of these engines. Given they are known to go for deep into the six-digits on the odometer, the next owner will have no problem piling on the miles from now until the cows come home with little in the way of expensive upkeep to worry about. This F250 is offered with no reserve, so there’s a chance you could find a much better deal here on a dependable work truck than anything new and with a warranty that’s currently littering dealer lots with a price tag sitting at $70K or better.

Best diesel Ford had, sure better than the junk 6.0-6.4. I know several of these with over 650,000 miles with no major engine work, both highway haulers

A “Fleet” truck would have vinyl seating, not cloth most likely.

It does have the rubber floor mat, though. Also not really as beat up as most company – city trucks. Hmmm

      Hemorrhoids , my boy.
Most high use seats have cloth or cloth inserts to help ventilate the posterior.

Yes sir, I’m with the city water department. Everything we have is an F series, all vinyl. Many do have power locks & windows though. This truck is awesome, would prefer it’s simplicity to what’s on today’s market.

1997 F-250’s with this 92-96 body style were hard to find in ’97. I’ll bet it’s rare now!

Nice truck that would have been correct xl cloth frt seat as no armrest was present. Xl had painted grille etc the r bumper id say was aftermkt as the xlt had face pads along with step pads. The tailgate trim is xlt. I think xlt had carpet too frt bumper with diesels had the extra cutouts like steps i dont remember a painted bumper with these. R bumper was not mandatory back then in 97 this was a 250hd the other 250 was a 7 lug nut version of the 150 body style. I worked at a ford garage from 88 to 01 and lived thru these trucks loved them all

Screw all the fancy new gadgets! There’s something that feels so right about a good ol’ truck.
