Practically Perfect Porsche: 1973 911T Survivor

“But it’s brown!” I can hear your exclamations already — my uncle had a theory that brown and green cars survive because those are the two ugliest colors to paint cars — don’t yell at me, it was his theory, not mine! This absolutely pristine 1973 Porsche 911T survivor is listed for sale here on eBay and is located at a classic car dealership in Naples, Florida. Be prepared to pay a premium for this perfection though, as bidding begins at $109,500!

The only deviations from stock according to the sales listing are the headlights and the removal of the front bumperettes (similar to the rears in this picture) which are, of course, included with the sale, along with every bit of documentation you can think of. The car currently is showing 87,654 very, very careful miles.

The all-original paint “as verified by several Concours judges” is Sepia Brown. I had a Spitfire 1500 in almost this exact shade once and spent most of my time with the car wishing it were a different color but to each their own. This car was produced in February of 1973 and was originally sold in Avon, Connecticut.

The interior is truly superb and features the classic 911 driving experience. I wonder how many people would drive this car much at this point, though; I fear it is destined to be a show car for the rest of its life. Anyone feel differently?

The 911T was the entry level 911 in 1973 with both the E and S positioned above it. For an example of the differences between them, despite all three having the same size 2341 cc flat-six engine, the T was rated at 140 horsepower, while the E had 165 and the S 190.

After looking at the pictures closely, I really can’t find a fault with it apart from teh color choice. But Sepia Brown may be your favorite color — so — any 911 fanatics out there that would drop over $100,000 on this Teutonic survivor?

I don’t think I would call it brown technically it looks like some kind of a Buckskin color but it is in that family of tan brownish I suppose. Some dark green metallics are really nice. Would you call this brown?

Nice for the person willing to drop so much cash 💰 .

I will wait for the market to crash again when these drop to reality.

Classic to me is to have a car one can drive and keep under mid twenties. If your lucky 🍀 much less .
Yes I am sure it’s not pristine as this Porsche but my classic gets three to five thousand miles per year and I am not worried about depreciation or minor dings.

    “Ass-engined nazi slot car”….. P.J. O’Rourke.
The air-cooled bubble continues to expand, so I anticipate 150-175K

Wasn’t it Pete Lovely that built a Porsche powered Cooper and called it a “Pooper?” Well, I guess this is sort of another one!

Really can’t see what the fuss is with these old Porsche’s.
Owned a few but would prefer a later model for half the price.

Brown, gold, and “metallic-pea”, are the ugliest car colors known to man! Do you agree?

Depends on the lines the car has for me. The Forrest green and Sherwood green with gold flake metallic cars were and still very popular with the G.M. crowd. Nice color on a Chevelle, Nova, Camaro, pick ups as well. Looks like hell when worn out but when maintained looks good. When that original color is used on a GM vehicle I also prefer an aftermarket old school complete chrome wheels as opposed to factory rally wheels. All of the big three used this shade of a dark green with gold flake metallic. With white rally stripes looks great.

I have a 911T E type sitting in my garage since 1986 and has never seen the sun light. It has 63,000 miles and I have owned it since 1976. Yellow with a removable top. Insides perfect and mechanical fuel injected. Price? Who cares it’s paid for.

I agree! The browns and greens were popular colors at the time, and this accurately represents that. But I can’t imagine dropping that kind of money on it, but that’s just me.

In high school, I had a spoiled girlfriend who’s Dad gave her a metallic brown 928 with a brown/tan plaid cloth interior. She absolutely hated that car, and felt like it was a punishment from her Dad to be given that car to drive. I wasn’t from a wealthy family like her, and I was more than happy to drive it for her!

There you guys go again depressing the hell out of me for selling my ’70 911 T a couple of years ago. Never fails to amaze me the prices today of every car I have ever owned….about 70 or so….I’m glad I owned them for relatively next to nothing………..waiting for all bubbles to burst………

I worked at a Porsche+Audi dealership for a few months in 1973. We had a new 911S delivered in this color. It took about a week to get that sucker to shine. We surmised that the shipping wax wouldn’t come completely off because the paint hadn’t thoroughly dried before the wax was applied.

Apparently the paint has finally dried on this one.

These older 911s, especially the longhoods like this car, are an acquired taste.

Lots of people love them, or wish they could afford a good one for the cachet and cred they bring to the table among certain folks, and for their unique driving dynamics.

I admire the body design, which has become iconic and really is very attractive, but it’s downhill from there for everything else except maybe $$ appreciation providing you bought one years ago when they were cheap.

I tried to like them, and test drove quite a few, but other then the looks from the outside of the car, it’s downhill for everything else.

I finally figured out that I wasn’t cut out to own an air cooled, rear engine, tiny coupe with a weird-shifting transmission and a rear-biased weight distribution.

But best wishes to the folks who like those features in a car. I’ll stick to what I like and leave the vintage longhoods to them folks what likes them.

It’s one of a few period only colors. My 1800E was close to this color with more yellow in it. I call it baby poop. It’s baby poop.

When I got out of the Army I visited my dad whom I hadn’t seen in 6 years. He was doing great except for a ridiculous toupe’ He was driving a Jag and a Porsche exactly like this one including the color and wheels. I didn’t much like this color but it was fun to drive.

I bought one of these babies in 1980 but it was silver! Got it for $3000! Has 40k miles. The only problem it has was occasionally died on the road. The problem I found was a wire had shorted to the chassis when you hit a bump. Other than that it ran fine till this day-200k miles! It is the best 3k spent. It was easy to repair and the parts aren’t too expensive either.

Actually had one just like it. However, I repainted it Cinnamon Fire Mist, then later to a Canary Yellow. Now, in looking at this pristine car, it really was a good looking color. Would be “in” with today’s car culture.
