Project Car Plus A Spare: 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

If you’ve always had a hankering for restoring a Studebaker Golden Hawk then this project might just be exactly what you’re looking for. In this package, you get a Golden Hawk that is partially restored plus an extra car for parts. You will find this pair listed for sale here on eBay. Located in Ennis, Montana, they are offered with a Bill of Sale with VIN numbers from a salvage yard. Bidding is currently sitting at $810 but the reserve hasn’t been met.

As you can see the restoration on the project car has been commenced as a rotisserie restoration. What we can see of the car looks solid, and there is also a shot of the frame which also looks to be in good condition. This started life as a supercharged car, and judging by the number of shots of parts in the ad, it seems to be largely complete, although like the rest of the car some of these parts will require restoration.

The parts car is a ’56 model, and it can be used to source items such as glass and other assorted parts. It looks like it has been sitting in its current location for some considerable time, but it does appear that items such as trim, doors and the fenders may be able to be used or restored. Some internal trim pieces and seat components can be seen in some of the photos and all seem to be in good, restorable condition.

Naturally, the drive-train has been removed for the restoration, but we have no word on the condition of any of the components. For me, the biggest issue with a project like this is that with the project car in its current state, reassembly of the finished product could pose more than its fair share of headaches. It ranges from finding and installing components such as correct fasteners to such issues as ensuring that the wiring loom is complete and in good condition. For a person who is inexperienced, this can be a mine-field, but someone who takes on a project like this will need to go into it with their eyes open and an awareness that there are going to be numerous frustrations along the way.

There is no doubt that completing the restoration of this Golden Hawk represents a major undertaking. On the positive side of the ledger, this will give the new owner an opportunity to undertake a complete restoration to the highest standards. The parts car is certainly a bonus in this deal, and with values of Golden Hawks sitting around the $65,000 plus mark at present, it seems like a project worth considering.

VIN from a salvage yard? That is the beginning & the end for this car, It is illegal to take a VIN plate from one car & affix it to any other vehicle.
