For many muscle car fans, the 1969 Pontiac Firebird ranks among the most desirable F-body designs ever produced. With its sharp lines, split grille, and wide stance, it offered a sporty alternative to the Camaro while keeping Pontiac’s unique styling cues intact. Add the open-air experience of a convertible, and you’ve got a recipe for one seriously collectible project. This 1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible, listed here on craiglist in Maryland, is being offered by a long-time owner who has had the car for over 30 years. Thanks for the tip Mitchell G.!

The seller is upfront in noting that this Firebird is a full restoration project. The car is currently missing its engine and transmission, though it originally came with a straight-six engine paired to a 3-speed manual floor-shift transmission. While not the V8 option many buyers might seek, the fact that the original six-cylinder is still available with the sale offers a chance for a numbers-correct restoration—or an easy upgrade path to Pontiac’s wide range of V8s if performance is the goal.

Out back, the car retains its 10-bolt rear end with 3.73 posi-traction and an 8½-inch ring gear, a desirable feature for those who appreciate the gearing advantages. The Firebird was originally finished in black, which would make for a striking restoration once brought back to life.

The photos show a car that will need comprehensive body and interior work. Years of storage have left it tired, and the seller emphasizes that it is not running in its current state. However, the clear and clean title is included, which removes one of the biggest headaches in starting a project of this magnitude.

Given its condition, this is not a project for the faint of heart. Still, 1969 Firebirds—especially convertibles—are becoming increasingly scarce, and restored examples command strong values on the collector market. For the right buyer, this could be the perfect foundation to build a concours-quality restoration, a tasteful pro-touring restomod, or simply a fun weekend cruiser.

Would you restore this Firebird to factory spec with its straight-six and 3-speed, or would you swap in a V8 and build it to your own vision?

This is one for the “patina” fans in the audience…
It looks like the top isn’t the only thing it dropped.
You gotta love CL ads. Seller begins with “Read entire AD before asking questions.” And then proceeds to give very little information.
sounds like the seller has an attitude already and not going to be easy to deal with. i would pass on this 1
Lots of elbow grease and a large chunk of cash to get anywhere close to a running car. I drove several 1968 convertibles. As that was the vehicle of choice for my bosses wife. (The boss was the partner and general manager at the Pontiac store I worked at. I was adopted into the family and taught his kids to drive in the wife’s demo. (Always a 1968 Firebird convert.) All were 6 cylinder automatics. As .uch as I like early ‘birds. No on this one.
