Project Started: 1966 Oldsmobile F-85

Oldsmobile along with Buick, Chevrolet, and Pontiac redesigned their intermediate size cars in 1966. The new body tried to look more like it’s bigger brother the 88 series. Here is a 1966 Oldsmobile F-85 Deluxe Holiday Coupe for sale here on Craigslist in Antelope, California. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Miguel for finding this car and letting us know about it.

The two-door models had a unique rear window. From the side, it looked like a fastback, but the rear glass was tucked in with it looking like a tunneled back window. This is one of those cars that the project has been started, but the seller doesn’t have the money to finish it. It’s currently taking up space in the lister’s garage but belongs to someone else. It appears some body work has been done on the car already, but of course, will need a paint job. However, there does appear to be a small dent on the passenger side near the bumper area. All chrome trim appears to be in good condition.

Nothing has been done to the interior so far, so there may need to be a bit of money spent there. The seats have an aftermarket seat cover, probably indicating a fair amount of tears and rips. The door panel carpeting and floor carpeting will need replacing as well. This car appears to have air conditioning due to the air vent on the right side of the dash. It looks like the radio is missing.

The original engine has already been rebuilt, but it had a strange intermittent knocking noise. It was determined that one of the pistons had a collapsed skirt, so some further work is needed. That engine is a 330 cubic inch V-8. The car will also need a brake overhaul. There are 136,208 miles on this F-85. While further work is needed on the engine, paint and interior work will be needed, this car can still be picked up for a reasonable price of $2,500. Are you interested in taking on this project?

If it is as solid as it looks, this may be the bargain of the week…I always thought this was the best body styles Oldsmobile ever came up with…

I’m always concerned when the seller and the owner are not the same person.

Another example of abuse by spray can. Please, please don’t do that; it always looks worse.
