Quick Take: 1940 Ford Panel Truck

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

We don’t have a lot to go on regarding this 1940 Ford panel truck, which is being sold here on eBay. The seller tells us they are relisting the truck due to a non-paying bidder and that it actually belongs to one of their customers. It’s located in the Lincoln, Nebraska area and the starting bid is only $1,999 without a reserve.

The seller has only three pictures to share with us, but they are enough to tell that while the body is relatively solid, there’s quite a bit of metal work necessary if you want to return this Ford to like new status. It looks like there are a fair number of parts missing as well. Perhaps this panel truck is destined to become a restomod?

Whew! Nice to see that the left rear fender is with the truck after all. What do you think will happen to this cool old truck? And what do you think it will sell for?

It looks like a ’40 or a ’41. The wheels and brake drums are earlier but are easy to change up. It still makes me wonder what happened to the originals. Restoration or rest-mod for sure; I guess this one would be open season as to what you put back under the hood; axles, wheels and tires for that matter. For me it would be a 24 stud flathead, maybe warmed over, but I’m completely satisfied with how Henry built it….

Hi geomechs, I agree, this has a snowball’s chance in heck of being restored stock.( some really nice resto-mod panels, though) I’m with you, a flathead V8, properly set up, would do just fine. It’s amazing, these still pop up like this. It’s a big country, I guess.

Not a whole lot here other than the body, and it’s rough. I’d maybe look into putting the body on a late model F150 or Ranger chassis, but definitely stay with Ford parts.
