The price of Bronco’s has skyrocketed in recent years – with very low mile survivors knocking on the high $100K’s. That’s what may make the throw-back Chrome Yellow 1970 beauty found here on Craigslist, thanks to reader Eric H, appealing. Now, add the 1983 Four Wheel brand Pop-up camper perched in back – and you’ve got a head-turning retro camping combo.
Personally, I get the Bronco infatuation that has swept up all walks of life into the Vintage SUV phenomenon. One of my favorite stops on a daily commute in Los Angeles was ASC Bronco in Venice. My tastes run towards original in most restorations, but one of their beefy, modded Bronco sitting up high on massive mudders is truly a majestical machine. In the extreme (the price that is), I’ve had the chance to road trip in a matte grey Icon BR – the mod house that takes Bronco’s and other classics and builds masterpiece versions that barely resemble their original bones in performance, suspension, and technology.
I’m a bit mixed on the one featured here. At $30k with camper, it first strikes me as a pretty good deal. But the reality is that with some searching and serious investigation, I bet you could find a similar Bronco with fewer miles than the 170k the ad shows at a lower price. Certainly, the Four Square camper is fun, but I was able to find a handful in great condition and the same Mid-Century Modern influenced décor under $2k.
Still, the combination is compelling – and I certainly believe the seller when he says, “It will attract people where ever it is parked.” If you pulled up into any National Park spot or Good Sam Club for an overnight, I bet you would draw more attention than any of the Prevost Rv’s that run half a million or more!
Prices into the high $100k’s Why?
biggest rust bucket ever to come down the pike, we had one for plowing snow around our repair shop, why? the guy that owned it got us to put a clutch in it and wouldn’t pay the bill, so we slapped a lien on it! it fell apart with rust crushed it to git rid of it!
Any vehicle that was used as plow duty rusted no matter the manufacture, salt and snow does that to metal, especially at shops because they don’t clean them off after each snow. I know because I’ve owned plenty of 4×4’s in northern Illinois and I’ve seen the difference between private ownership and private business used plow trucks, I also owned a plowing service for 5 years.
“Camper is a 1983 4 wheel camper that was made to fit the early campers.”
sentence that gets me.
Often seen in the bronk literature. Now it’s in TX. Pretty original (if U wanna take off the camper) except spare tire carrier, rear views, pass. seat, nerf bar steps (& camper…). In great shape! Thanks Garr!
anyone who has ever driven one of these can tell you how top heavy these bronks are, gotta be a bear with this camper mounted. Very cool though!!!
It’s not the top heavy that’s the real problem although that matters. The real problem is the narrow wheel base.
Wonder how much it all weighs, when heading off
on a camping trip?I can’t see that being easy/fun to drive.
Wow…when I submitted this in October it was for sale for $24k. Looks like they added a step and $6000 to the asking price.

I’ve had 2 first generation Broncos and I could kick myself for selling them, not for what they are worth in $$$ but they were rugged 4 wheelers and could get in to places the big trucks couldn’t and I thought they looked better than a Jeep / Scout. I don’t care for the massive camper, I would rather pull a small pop up camper so I could still use the Bronco for fun while camping. JMHO
The front mounted spare would have to go..,even though I know it was popular to mount them there, I just see an overheated engine,in the mountains,on a hot day🤔.This is really cool😎,but is priced a bit high to me, but I know that these Broncos have been collectable for years. This will be a lot of fun for the next owner to use as intended…!
This is advertised on Craigslist in Central FL and says it’s located in Edgewater FL. That’s near Daytona. Area code is the Tampa area. I saw this at theTurkeyRun Show in Daytona last year.
I dont get the Bronco infatuation.
Plus you can’t be over 5’ 2” to get a good sleep in there.
Not a snowball’s chance.
