Zero to 60 in under four seconds… on gravel! That’s the legacy of Ford’s 600+ HP rally-racing Escorts. This consumer-version, a European-built 1987 Ford Escort RS Turbo, comes in well under 600 HP, but certainly proved sporty and competent in its day. Imported to the colonies from a nondescript European nation, the Davenport, New York classic comes up for sale here on Facebook Marketplace where the asking price of $1234 stands unlikely to make it yours.
Left-hand drive suggests this specimen served the continental market when new. Supportive Recaro seats promise to keep your fanny in place while negotiating tree-lined gravel roads at full steam. Recaros can be super-comfortable for tarmac driving and long trips as well. The seller cautions potential buyers against submitting “stupid questions,” so mind your manners. “Stupid offers” should be avoided too, despite the fake asking price of $1234.
No engine picture graces the phone-created listing, so have another look at those snappy Recaro seats. They are a factory part of the RS Turbo package. The road-going RS Turbo produced 130 HP, according to Automobile-Catalog, enough for a 7.6 second run from naught to 60. That number may seem like family fare today, but it bested the contemporary Porsche 924 and nearly every American car except for V8 sports cars like the Corvette, Mustang, and Camaro.
If garage-stored when not accumulating its reported 35,000 miles from new, the Escort may well retain original paint, though we do not know. It could simply be a handsome re-spray. Did you know about this version of Ford’s popular ’80s World Car?
Cool car. I grew up owning and loving muscle cars but have developed an affinity for Euro-spec rally cars. I have no idea what the market will bear for this import. More than I can offer I am sure. The new owner will have something special.
I’m not the biggest Ford guy, but I would love to have this. I do have a thing for some of the European Fords though…
I hate it when they list prices like that,& make demands
about how you’re supposed conduct yourself.
I came across this ’93 Fiesta here in Roanoke,VA.
I was getting really interested until I noticed the rust under
the driver’s door.
Stuff the Fester, there’s Cortinas!
All three are for sale.I submitted these to
Barn Finds a while back, but they wouldn’t accept
my submission.
Ive been looking for a fiesta like that ..please send me details on this fiesta
A email or phone number of the sell
The plates on the car are portuguese.
Yeah, this has scammy written all over it.
Actually, no it’s not a scam! I am the owner of this car and it is in Davenport New York if you would like to come and see it. You can call me (646)717-3107. Thanks, Fernando
Ah yes, the aggressive and insulting seller. No thanks.
First question to ask Mr. Facebook: Does it come with a clean title?
Second question: Are parts readily available, or does everything become a worldwide Internet search?
Has this legally been imported? Has EPA cleared it?
I love the European Escort , particularly the RS. I’m betting not much interchangeable with our Escort so yeah internet ordering parts. But they were common in Europe so shouldn’t be too hard
So…keeping your fanny in place…LOL
Different words have different meanings in different places.
The full fat Cosworth Escorts have a huge wing and a version of Cosworths BDA and are worth heaps.
Check with your Aussie colleague about the fanny thing…ha.
These were quite the thing to have for a while. Less common than – and faster than – the XR3i, they had various unique parts; the vents on the bonnet being the most obvious. The factory didn’t rally them, as far as I remember; they probably still had unsold stock of RS200s following the demise of Group B. There was the RS1700T that was based on this era of Escort shell, but it was rear-wheel driven whilst this one’s front wheel drive.
chrlsful@aol.commy most despised sales venue (FB).
Very poor pic here (well, the few interior R adiquate).
Not the car we seek. Here it is:
