There’s just one photo to go on of this rare 1982 Chevrolet Corvette Collector’s Edition, but given how infrequently these cars pop up in driver-quality form for reasonable money, it seemed worthy of a mention. Now, $18,000 isn’t a small amount of money, but with under 9,000 original miles on the clock, it seems like a decent price for one of the more sought-after models of the C3 platform. The Corvette is located in Vermont, and while the seller does reference the fact that the leather is a bit dry and pitted, it’s supposedly not torn up. Find the Corvette here on craigslist in Pompton Lakes, Vermont.
The Collector’s Edition, in my opinion, is one of the few limited-edition Corvettes that actually combined a whole assortment of very cool features to make it a fairly desirable specimen. Perhaps the biggest improvement was the introduction of L83 with “CrossFire” fuel injection, an engine offering that amounted to being a preview for the forthcoming C4. Power and torque were both more than respectable, coming in at 200 b.h.p. and 285 lb.-ft., respectively. An automatic was the only transmission offered in ’82, and the final C3 eclipsed 60 in just under eight seconds with this setup. Special paint with shadow graphics; a matching leather interior; thicker carpeting; a unique VIN code and more all set the Collector’s Edition apart, and you can see those features broken out in this period advertisement listed here on eBay.
Of course, one of the most highly regarded features was the glass rear hatch assembly, a first for a C3 Corvette. As you can see in this listing here on eBay, this one-year-only option for a C3 carries a high price tag today, and it’s been a standard feature on Corvettes ever since (well, up until the latest iteration with its mid-engined design). The turbine wheels were a direct throw-back to the Stingray, and overall, the Collector’s Edition gave Corvette enthusiasts a little bit of everything: the best of the past, present, and future. For those reasons, it’s my favorite C3 model, and the one I’d buy if I were in the market.
One of my favorite Corvettes!
Same here Ted! But there sure are a lot of people who hate them. I’ve never understood that. The Cross Fire injection gets a really bad rap
Had one and loved it. This one though.. missing radio? No title? Pitted leather? That just doesn’t happen in 9k miles unless it’s been sitting outside all that time. I know there’s the “Vermont title” thing you can do for missing titles, but with those issues it’s a $5k Corvette.
I remember when this year came out and always liked them. But, I could never drive a Corvette with a automatic transmission. Do not know why they did not offer a manual in 1982. I agree too many issues with this one.
I like the 82 Collector Edition, but there is nothing rare about them. Chevrolet built almost 6800 of them, which means about a third of all 82’s were Collector Editions.
I don’t know how people expect to sell cars with ad’s like this one. Just one picture that shows nothing. Saying it needs a radio, but does that mean the radio’s missing, or just doesn’t work? Then saying the seats and door panel leather is pitted, “NOT torn or ripped”, how does leather get pitted?
FYI, Pompton Lakes is a long way from Vermont.
370zpp, you got that right , Pompton Lakes is in Passaic County New Jersey, if you enlarge the map in the craigslist ad you will see it . Nice car too suspicious, pitted leather, radio, title.
Rare! Hahaha.
Cross-Fire Injection is Junk. This is my favorite model of the C3 though.
