Listed here on eBay, this 1984 Pontiac Firebird 500 is a rare find for enthusiasts of third-generation Firebirds and early ’80s American performance cars. According to the seller, only 500 examples of this Firebird 500 Limited Edition were produced in white during the 1984 model year, making it one of the rarer trim levels from the decade. This one shows just 24,000 miles and is said to be a one-owner car, still equipped with its factory 305 cubic-inch V8 and automatic transmission.

The seller notes that this Firebird retains its factory originality, right down to its interior and drivetrain. It’s described as clean and well-kept, featuring a blue interior with cloth seats, power windows, and a full suite of comfort features for the time, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt steering, and even a cassette player paired with the factory AM/FM stereo. Like many Firebirds of the era, this car was built with Pontiac’s signature blend of sporty looks and road comfort, aimed squarely at the American driver who wanted muscle car style with everyday drivability.

From the photos, the car presents well, appearing to be in strong condition consistent with its low mileage. The paint and trim look well preserved, and it rides on a set of beefy aftermarket wheels and tires. The seller lists the car as having a clean title, adding further confidence for buyers looking for a mostly unmodified, original example.

1984 marked an important time for Pontiac. The Firebird line had evolved into a sleeker, more aerodynamic platform, emphasizing sharp lines and modern design cues that were a big step away from the blocky muscle of the ’70s. Limited editions like this Firebird 500 offered collectors and buyers something a little more exclusive, often featuring unique color combinations, trim packages, and commemorative numbering. While Pontiac never reached the power heights of its earlier Trans Ams during the early ’80s, the cars from this period have become increasingly collectible as enthusiasts seek well-preserved survivors from the era.

This particular Firebird 500 stands out because of its originality and limited production background. With just one owner since new, a low 24,000 miles, according to the listing, and all of its factory features still in place, it checks the boxes that serious Pontiac fans look for. These limited cars are seldom found in such unaltered condition, most were driven, modified, or lost over time.

Finding a special edition Firebird like this one, especially in its factory white paint and with documented low mileage, makes it a strong candidate for preservation or light recommissioning. It’s the kind of car that can either stay parked as a collectible or be enjoyed on sunny weekends as a survivor from one of Pontiac’s most distinctive eras.

Would you keep this Firebird 500 as a collector’s showpiece, or put it back on the road where it belongs?

So they created a special edition called ‘500’ because they made 500, and labeled it as a 500? Is creativity truly that dead?
Those are base factory wheels. I think the 500 was a regional package put together by dealers. Not a car with an RPO code. Looks to have a Mecham rear spoiler too. Cool car and nicely optioned inside but im not sure id call it a factory backed special edition.
This is just a dealership stripe job on a base Firebird. It adds no value, although it’s definitely unusual to see a base Firebird preserved at this level.
You guys are hilarious. It is especially clean for it’s age, but my first thought was when did they make one of these? Thanks for the enlightening comments. I learn something new every day here. I wonder if it had those orange or red dashboard lights. I really hate those and that would probably be the only I’d change.
they did have the red lights on the dash, Pretty much every Pontiac had it by 84 with a couple of exceptions. I agree, it’s pretty nice for it’s age. I wouldn’t kick it out of the garage, even though I have a hard time stomaching a white car.
Pontiac adopted red instrument panel backlighting as one of their brand’s design cues and began phasing it in across their product line in the early ’80s (thinking back, it may well have made its first appearance with the introduction of the third-gen F-body models in 1982), and was still being featured in Pontiacs when the brand was dropped in 2010.
First pontiac to have red dash lights was the 79 T/A pace car replicas
Very interesting! I never heard of this? When I go on the Internet to look up with a Firebird 500 is the only information I have leads to information from this website! 😂
The eBay ad description doesn’t help much either. In fact, I think it’s probably the shortest eBay car ad description I have ever seen!
Curious, what red and orange lights are you talking about on the dashboard? Like low oil level? Or was it like a special like everything is red or orange sort of cool lighting?
All the instrument lights are red. One of those things Pontiac did with their cars i have a 2006 Grand Prix that also has the red dash lights.
I was wondering why I had never heard of one of these before but I think some of the prior comments explain why. I remember these all over the place back in the 80’s but so few survived in this condition it’s certainly worth a serious consideration if it’s something that peaks your interest.
This is a fake 500LE the true 500LE had a manual transmission and a high output 5.0 engine and was a 15th anniversary edition. I question the miles because the two isn’t straight I personally think it’s rolled over still looks like a clean car good luck to the seller
I have a white 83 Trans Am with t-tops that has striping similar to this but not exact. I think it was part of a package according to the original sticker which I have. Perhaps they were trying to imitate this for the so called 500 ?? Mine is not perfect but no rust. Have had it nearly 40 years and am the second owner. Has 79,00 miles and have enjoyed every one of the ones I have put on. I am 76 and it will be passed on to my son who enjoys it like I do.
