Rare in Green: 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo

When it comes to Porsche 911s, the 911 Turbo is the top banana. In fact, among automotive investments you can make, it’s probably one of the best ones in terms of ROI and never-ending appreciation. These were borderline supercars in every generation, and surprisingly reliable for what they were. Of course, like every high-stress, limited production vehicle, your maintenance costs are always going to be on the higher side, but it Porsche ownership is still a walk in the park compared to a Ferrari of the same era as this gorgeous 1992 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 listed here on eBay for $479,000.

Oh, mama. What a nutty price! The sad thing is the seller will likely get somewhere in the ballpark of this number, as the 964 generation 911 is easily one of the most limited-production eras out there. And, like every 911 generation, the Turbo was produced in extremely low quantities. This car goes one step further as it wears an exceedingly rare shade of paint known as Amazon Green, which is also of the prettiest colors you could have ordered a 911 in during the the 964 years. This car is mostly stock but it has been modified slightly with 3-piece, Speedline wheels; Bilstein B6 dampers; a TechArt fog light and brake duct kit; and a Fabspeed Motorsports exhaust.

There’s also an aftermarket steering wheel and a shift knob and emergency brake handle from a 993-era 911. The original steering wheel is included, but this is a sensible upgrade. The carbon fiber-look trim around the gauge cluster isn’t my favorite, but I doubt the current owner is too concerned. The big miss here are the floor mats; c’mon, man, can’t you spring for some nice Coco mats that complement the color scheme? Regardless, the big news is under the hood, as this Turbo’s powerplant has been substantially overhauled and likely guarantees many miles of care-free (relatively speaking) driving for the next owner.

The flat-six was removed and a snapshot of some of the work includes: replacement timing chain tensioners and ramps; replacement cylinder head bolts; new rod bearings, valve guides, intake and exhaust valves; a valve job; and numerous other replacement parts and components. This truly sounds like a need-nothing 911 at the moment, but obviously, much of its value is wrapped up in the miles never climbing too high. All that said, you could drive the doors off of yet for the next several years and still get a six-figure payout when you decide it’s time for the next thing, and that sounds pretty great to me.

These things do look like they are fast sitting still. Have driven a couple and you don’t want to refuse an offer to drive one. Pure blast of fun.

Item no longer available. So does that mean it got sold or the owner changed their mind? Somebody has some deep pockets if it did. Def on my bucket list of cars to drive.

I only drove one which was the previous generation. A 930 from the early 1980’s (I drove it around 1988). Extremely firm powerful braking, and excellent handling. I don’t know if the turbo was OEM, but it spooled up late (over 5000 rpm), but was a rocket past that point. Honestly speaking, there is nothing else like it. A true driver’s car, and a legend not to be replicated.
