When it comes to 3rd-generation Camaros, a few things matter more than others: color, options, and transmission. The rest of it is pretty standardized and doesn’t swing values much, but if you own a Camaro of this generation with either a rare job or three pedals, you’ve got it made in the shade. This 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28 listed here on eBay sports one of the rarer factory colors along with the optional four-speed automatic transmission and T-top roof panels.
This seller has a history of scaring up desirable late 80s / early 90s muscle cars, and their hit rate continues with this Camaro. While I am not a potential buyer for this car, I do love the color. Both GM and Ford nailed the paint schemes with their unique take on one of the loudest paint jobs obtainable from the factory, and a dream domestic garage to me is this car and a Tropic Yellow Mustang LX with the 5-speed. The seller’s car isn’t completely stock, as it appears to sport an aftermarket exhaust system.
The tan interior is a bit of a surprise, as I would have almost guaranteed black would be the color of choice inside for someone ordering a Camaro with this paint job and T-tops. I do wonder if this IROC was custom-ordered by its original owner, as the details seem a bit too specific for this to be just another standard assembly line model destined to serve as a eye-candy for a dealer lot. The good news is this Camaro has only 61,000 or so miles and that means the interior condition, like the outside, is in excellent shape.
With a 5.0L V8 under the hood, the Camaro will certainly sound the part of a muscle car, but that automatic gearbox will make things a bit less exciting from a performance perspective. Still, this is a car that is best viewed through the totality of the package, with the right engine, color, and options making it a home run for anyone looking to snatch up a third-generation Camaro before they go white-hot. Bidding is currently at just under $16,000 with the reserve unmet.
As many of these bodies as were running around my neck of the woods back in the day, I sure don’t recall seeing many in this color (or maybe I wasn’t really looking all that closely at the time). Fast forward all these years later and the yellow is kind of refreshing. I like it and the T-Tops are a nice feature but agree with Jeff I’d be more excited about ownership if it was a stick-shift. Still a nice ride and in this condition I feel is destined to meet the seller’s reserve, somebody’s gotta have it!
Had plenty running around central WI back in the day. A kid a few years ahead of me in HS had one this color. Rich kid, beat the piss out of it and never changed the oil. I wonder what ever happened to it?
Good call on the LX 5.0 in yellow Lavery. Especially the sedan. With those 10-hole phone☎️ dial rims 🙌
Looks like a no sale at $16500
It’s not that I like yellow or anything but this is a beautiful car.
Looks like someone’s going to get a nice one. Wish it was. Me
Looks like someone’s going to get a nice one. Wish it was. Me. I’m a sucker for the T-Tops
The answer is always T-Tops. An awesome 80’s thing.
Hobhess. I agree with you. This is a beautiful car. In 1988, I bought a brand new 1988 Chevy Monte Carlo SS. I should have bought a Camero instead. Happy holidays my friend.
We sold one this color back then. We ordered it for the customer in yellow with a red interior and decals. I have seen some odd combos over the years (new 70 Boss 302 four speed Mustang in medium lime metallic and maroon interior) but the Z28 looked really good
I had this car combination but it was a 87’ same interior color and yellow exterior. Mine had 3 pedals. Wouldn’t have a car like this in an automatic. They weren’t anything like the 60’s muscle cars but mine was fast enough and a blast to go through the gears.
The color is a big hit for me but i cant stomach the interior , multi shades of vomit , i had an 89 topless , low km’s , 2 owner and i sold it cause of the interior i have had a chronic back ache since my early thirties so , a stick was out of the question but now at 61, its ALL gone and i am thinking of going back to manual ! Ahh the joys of aging …YOLO
As Mr Falfa said is that pxss yellow or puke green. Just joking like the car but not the color. GLWTA
Use to call these “Plastic Fantastic”. After a few years the dash would crack..the console plastics would crack and break. Same went for the Fiero and the Thunderbird and the Cimarron and the Citation and the Chevett and the….
But I liked these. Lady neighbor down the street had one in the later 80s. White with the grey/red interior. She had a front plate
“IROC N ROLL” 😉
The 86 models were some weak cars. Especially since you can only get the TPI engine with an automatic and a peanut cam.
It looks good though in yellow.
An iconic car of its era, I like it quite a bit, although IMHO, as Jeff said, a black interior would bring this car up a notch.
👍🤓
I had a 91 Z28 with the 5.7 auto L98 (no T-tops with the 5.7) It was a fun car and except for an alternator and a tranny rebuild at 75k it was pretty reliable but I wouldn’t want to own another one. The yellow is striking and different and I love T-Tops! I do remember the cloth seats were wearing on the sides when I sold her..GLWTA
Had this exact same Iroc, the color represented mine very well, total lemon, had to take it in on the same mechanical issues 7 times the last time it had to sit for 2 months because the part was on backorder, clear coat was peeling on most of the car, had to get it repainted for that issue, you have no idea how much I wanted to park it in from of the dealership & write sunkist on the side of it.
I had an 85 black and gold Iroc back in the day, that color combo and this one were my favorites. might as well ordered a chevette for performance though. Total boat anchors as for performance lol.
