Rare Indy Edition: 1993 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado

I can probably use a musical analogy to explain where this 1993 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado fits into the big picture. An Indianapolis 500 Pace Car is like a legendary band. It hits center stage, wows the audience, receiving rapturous applause and a standing ovation. This Silverado is an Indy 500 Official Truck. It is more akin to the faithful roadie. It wears the correct uniform, but its role is to move equipment from place to place, ensuring that everything runs smoothly when the curtain opens. Chevrolet supplied the Official Truck for the 1993 Indy 500 and produced 1,534 replicas for public sale. This Silverado is one of those vehicles, and it is a stunning survivor. With 5,100 miles on the clock and seemingly flawless presentation, its next journey could be to a new home. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder T.J. for spotting this gem listed here on eBay in Belleview, Florida. The seller set their BIN at $64,900 with the option to make an offer.

The 1993 Silverado Indy Official Truck Edition was anything but subtle. However, it shared that trait with the Camaro Z28 that served as the Pace Car that year. Both featured two-tone Black-and-White paint with multi-hue graphics and door signage denoting their roles. Throw in sparkling chrome wheels and an enormous “Chevrolet” banner across the top of the windshield, and these vehicles definitely stood out in a crowd. The presentation of our feature Silverado is all that you should rightly expect from a cherished vehicle with such low mileage. The paint seems flawless, cloaking panels that are as straight as an arrow. The vinyl graphics are crisp, with no evidence of shrinkage or checking. The bed appears to have never seen a load, and the underside is clean enough to eat off. The reality is that I believe you would struggle to find another ’93 Silverado, in any form, as spotless as this one.

Chevrolet didn’t reinvent the wheel with the 1993 Silverado Indy Official Truck Edition. Every buyer received a 5.7-liter V8, a four-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. The V8 was becoming a good thing by 1993 as Chevrolet came to grips with emission regulations. It produced a factory-quoted 210hp and 300 ft/lbs of torque, providing very respectable performance. Unsurprisingly, this Truck is mechanically original. The seller doesn’t mention evidence verifying their mileage claim, but the spotless engine bay is consistent with that figure. They say that the vehicle runs and drives perfectly, rolling on its original Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires. They supply this YouTube video, confirming that the motor springs to life at a twist of the key, sounding sweet as a nut.

As befits a vehicle of this type, Chevrolet equipped the Official Truck’s interior with plenty of creature comforts. Buyers received two-tone Gray trim, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, cruise control, a tilt wheel, and an AM/FM radio/cassette player. Also unsurprising is this interior’s presentation. With such a low odometer reading, there has been no opportunity for it to become worn or tired. The seats are spotless, as is the matching carpet. There are no dash or pad issues, and no crumbling plastic. It is one of the cleanest and most original ’93 Silverado interiors you are likely to find in the market today.

Regular readers will have seen various Indy Pace Car Editions gracing our site over the years. However, Indy Official Trucks are less common. I delved into the Barn Finds archives and can confirm that this is only the second 1993 Chevrolet Silverado example that we have featured. I find that fascinating because we have seen a fair number of 1993 Camaro Indy Pace Cars, and Chevrolet produced only 653 of them. The sales tally for the Official Truck was 1,534, making it significantly more common. I can’t think of a single reason for such a discrepancy, unless a significant percentage was driven into the ground before being scrapped. This Silverado could be one of the best left on the planet, though the harsh reality is that it needs to be to justify the seller’s BIN. Do you agree, or would you hand over the cash to take this amazing survivor home?

This is quite litterally, a brand new truck. Its very nice, but at this point, I’d be hesitant to drive it, because its just too nice. The price is eye watering, but again, where are you going to find another one this nice? I remember seeing one of these when it was new at the local Chevy dealer in the small town we lived in. My personal preference, then and now, would’ve been a short bed half ton with a 305 and a 5 speed manual. ( But thats me). The 350 did a great job moving these out. And as Adam already wrote, manufacturers were figuring out how to work around emissions and get good performance by then. Hats off to T.J. for a rare mint truck, and Adam, as always great feature and write up. Thank you.

I forgot to mention. I think that Those Uniroyal Tiger Paws are original too. I wouldn’t venture out too far with them.

It’s a really nice truck. But $65k? Are they kidding?
