Ford called it a Fastback but over at Plymouth, they called it a Fast Top. In the end, it makes little difference what you call it because it all equates to one sweet looking machine! This Sport Fury might have been a full-size C-body, but it looks fast and could go fast with its big block engine. It was originally equipped with a 290 horsepower 383, but it currently has a 440 V under the hood. Reader Jason G hasn’t tried to start it but has turned it over by hand. If this is a 440 from ’68, it was rated at an impressive 375 horsepower! You can take a closer look at Jason’s Mopar via the link below.

Seller’s Description: This Plymouth Sport Fury is the Fast Top body style and was optioned with the 440 V8 and factory AC! The odometer is showing 27k miles, but who knows if that’s accurate.
Body Condition: The body is in fair condition. Car looks to have originally been red. It is now black with clear coat peeling. The floors and trunk are all solid.
Mechanical Condition: It does not run, but the engine turns by hand. Front bumper is included (not pictured). The car was originally equipped with a 2 barrel 383 V8, but the 440 should offer a nice boost in performance.

It would have been nice if the engine block # had been included. The pictures show the high performance air cleaner pie pan, but those can be swapped just by unscrewing a wing-nut. I’m usually a numbers matching guy, but I’d leave the 440 in and put cop car tires, cop car suspension and steering. I’d add 4 wheel disc brakes and send out an FM radio to be modded into a good stereo with Bluetooth.
I’m a diehard C-body fan but the fasttop body style never appealed to me. Give me the regular 2DHT any time. But for 68 this was the popular style selling 3X the 2DHT variety.
Pluses for this example are factory a/c with tinted glass and bucket seats with console. After that things kind of fall apart. Firstly, put a 1 in front of the stated odometer reading. Guaranteed. Then the seller’s location tells me that putting the car on a lift would reveal some serious ugliness underneath. The partial disassembly and rat’s nest of dash wiring don’t help.
I agree on the 2dr hrdtp being a nicer looking car. Overall this doesn’t look to bad, the peeling clear indicates an older incorrect paint job but I don’t see any bubbling Bondo on the lower panels. This may actually have a decent body as there are no holes in that trunk pan which they are notorious for. Clean up the wiring get it running and clean up the interior. Then it’s a nice entry level car in the $5000 range. If it’s full of Bondo and rust issues not much value at all.
