Reader Ad: 1972 Ford Thunderbird

SOLD

Now, this is a beautiful example of the great American Land Yacht! Finding a ratty worn out behemoth cruiser isn’t all the difficult, but finding one in as original and nice condition as this Ford Thunderbird is a different story. This beast has spent its life in Texas and Arizona, but was obviously stored indoors and hasn’t suffered from sun damage. It’s covered just 36k miles since new and Frank states that the AC still even blows cold! If you’re ready to hit the road in ’70s luxury, be sure to take a look at Frank’s ad via the link below!

Location: Phoenix, Arizonia
Mileage: 36,232
Title Status: Clean
VIN: 2J87A170745

Seller’s Description: Totally original El Paso, Texas and Arizona survivor. The chassis shows amazing, as does the exterior and interior. Its been owned for the past few years by Hal Baer, the owner of Baer Brakes. Hal had wanted to build this as a SEMA style extravagant display car, but its so original and nice it seemed like a bad idea.

Body Condition: Amazingly well preserved original rust free body. There is evidence of a small amount of repainting on the passenger side lower quarter behind the tire. Other than that the paint appears original and in great shape. The color seems to be either a love or hate reaction, but its hard to dislike the way it’s been preserved. In the Arizona sun, it shines like an emerald.

Mechanical Condition: The Thunderbird runs, drives and handles as it was a new car. The AC blows very cold. Brakes work great. It floats down the road. I took the pictures on a 109-degree day. No overheating and great AC.

Very nice, and as a bonus I got my green fix for the day… such a classic colour.

Nice car, anyone know what the white is on the front bumper? (didn’t read as, on phone)

I believe they are also on the back – also white – bumper guards , tho shouldn’t they be black?

My old man had a T-bird almost just like this for a short time, green and everything. Not sure why he bought it, he was into Lincolns for a while. I remember, it was a tank. The 460 was a stone( in all fairness, this car did weigh almost 5,000 lbs) I think the reason he sold it, the doors were too heavy for my mom to close, they weighed a ton. We’d turn the air cleaner over for more power. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner, but didn’t go any faster. Still, one of the best cruiser’s I ever drove.

Yes, a 72 Bird needed 12 seconds to do the 0 to 60 sprint. Very heavy cars.

I’m sure I’m in the less than 1% of ‘Bird fans that absolutely love the “big birds” Not taking anything away from the early 2-seat sport coupes that rivaled Corvette, or the “aero birds” of the 1980s, but for me I prefer riding in the comfort of my living room. I wish I had the garage space for another 70s Land Yacht.

Hello I am selling the Tbird. Henry Bored -Good catch on the white line. Its not in my original picture. I looked at the Ebay add creation and its not there but it shows up in the ad. Its not actually there in real life. Its a very original car, and I don’t think ford offered smiley faces.

What exactly are the “optional side marker lights”?

The side market lights were optional and apparently rare. They are listed on the build sheet. I’m not sure whey they were an option.

A Continental MKIV in virtually all but name.

And appealing for that reason alone. Good luck with the sale, it’s a nice car.
