Reader Ad: 1976 Chevrolet C10 “Spirit of 76” Bonanza

SOLD

You have to love some of the special edition vehicles that the Big 3 produced to celebrate America’s Bicentennial! This truck is one of just 10 Chevrolet C10 Scottsdales built in 1976 with the Bonza package and the Spirit of 76 option. It’s going to need work, but it would definitely be a killer truck to have!

Asking Price: $15,000
Location: Tuscola, Texas
Mileage: 76,372
Title Status: Clean
VIN: CCL146S166066

Seller’s Description: Very hard to find 1 of 10 “Spirit of 76” Edition Chevrolet truck! From my online research and observation of pictures/posts (very limited info available) the last known Scottsdale/Bonaza Spirit of 76 edition truck sold on ebay for over 35k! Most had white door panels, sun visors, seat trim, with “Spirit of 76” interior door panel emblems that were unique to this edition. Also solid black instrument panels, with wood trim “Scottsdale” trim piece over ash tray and glove box area, and “Bonanza” badges on fenders. There were 500 “Spirit of 76” trucks but only 10 limited edition Scottsdale/Bonanzas!……this one is #9 of 10!! (I was told by a gentleman with documentation from GM that has 1 of the 10 in a the North Carolina museum)

Body Condition: Very good restorable shape. At some point, the center section on the sides of the truck that were originally white, were painted grey. (you can still see the white underneath in the door jambs) The bed has surface rust with a few small spots rusted through. The inside of drivers door has a small amount around the top seal area but is not rusted through. The vent window leaked while setting and it will need floor pans. As far as the rest of the body and underneath the truck it is extremely solid! I’ve included many pictures to show all of its problem spots and the strengths. (The last picture is of the only other “Spirit” project truck I’ve seen that sold here on ebay for 35k) Seat will need new foam and cover and there is a dash pad over cracked original dash. Keys are missing to the truck. (Id get new keys and switch for 20 bucks at parts house) It comes with a perfect clean title in my name with current registration and plates. Although very presentable, it has imperfections as would be expected for its age and is a project. So make a space in your shop, get your square metal Smokey and the Bandit lunch box, get the tunes on and tools ready to get this one back to its rolling glory. I have tried to be very detailed and honest in my description but may have missed something so please ask if you have any questions or would like additional pictures. This is a VERY solid and complete truck for restoration that will be an extremely rare and valuable piece in your collection.

Mechanical Condition: Complete but have not tried to get running. keys missing.

I love an old square-body, but 15 kilobucks for one that needs this much work is insane. Special edition or not!

    “Bonza”….”Bonaza”…Bonanza….

How about proofreading this stuff before it’s posted?

So the massive premium for this unremarkable, non-running truck gets you a small Spirit of 76 emblem on the drivers door. The other side is missing. Can’t even bother to spring for a set of keys, and you think we’re saving $20,000. Yer a peach, Reader.

    eBay puffery reads like this:

“I have here a small, organic artifact made by the most advanced species of soft machine on earth! 20,000 years of evolution have brought you to this very moment in time to take envied possession of this little brown gem, it has passed through 23 miles of digestive tract where MILLIONS of microbes and enzymes shaped it into a one-of-a-kind biological phenomenon. You won’t find another like it. It’s even still warm!!! Shucks, I sure hate to sell this, but I’ll let it go for merely a few tens of thousands of dollars.”

If “Spirit of ’76” was an option package shouldn’t it be on the option sticker inside the glove box, which it is not?

The only way to prove if its a real Spirit of 76′ is to look for the option code 126e NDW1 Blue/white Knit Upholstery option for the seat.

15 hun, no keys, maybe motor knocking, tranny done. Most likely why bod still has some life left. Looks like the bed took alot of loads too. Whole thing looks to need attention. Really only thing that sets this truck apart from the rest is the door panel emblem. Otherwise it looks like any other 70’s work truck you find on Craigslist. Maybe a patriotic collector at that price.

Big smile on my face with every one of these overpriced square bodies that comes along. 1st, aside from the door inside, I don’t see anywhere where it says “Spirit of 76”, although, it is possible. It may not have been listed on the line sheet, but you think it would. They had special graphics and fender badges. And even if it is, it’s not that big a deal anyway, it’s still a ’76 Chevy pickup. Tell you what, if and when I decide to sell my 77 GMC (and I’m close) I’m going to advertise it in Texas.

Boggles the mind that if it were as easy as $20 for a new key – the seller would do that just for the mere fact it wouldn’t have to be mentioned. Listing this truck for this price, in this condition hurts BarnFinds credibility – you can be slightly more selective!

So many don’t think it’s worth it and yet someone does since it has a bidder at that price.

Looks like to me someone found a set of door panels from a spirit truck and swapped them over even the dash plaque says Silverado it should say bonanza if it were a true bonanza model

I thought all the spirit of 76 Chevys were red white and blue, I believe they were white with red and blue trim. Even if this is a real spirit of 76, in its current condition it’s a $5000 truck tops!

I had the GMC version of this one. Same color scheme, maybe more blue. It was a Royal Sierra, Liberty edition. The bed had never been used.

Not all spirit of 76 was red very few was the blue and white. I have been doing some research on the truck because back in March of this yr I bought one. It’s the blue and white ithas the white door panels with spirit of 76 badge, white sun visors and the red/white/blue seat. It also has the Scottsdale on the dash and the bonanza front fender emblems. On the sticker inside the glove box all this is there so I know is the real deal
