Ready to Camp Red-E-Kamp: ’77 Chevy G20

_4-4

Ever since I brought home my 1981 Toyota Hiace project (well, home is relative – it’s at Oxford Motorcars where it awaits engine diagnosis for rough running issues), my wife has been surprisingly engaged in the process. Credit vans like this 1977 Chevy G20 Red-E-Kamp conversion here on eBay that stoked her imagination as to what you can do to convert a van to a home on wheels.

_4-5

And who can blame her, really, when vans like this one exist? The Red-E-Kamp package was clearly an upscale option when it was new, and likely cost more than a few bones to spec out this way. However, often times you see campers like these in downright foul condition, suffering from the years when it went from pleasure vehicle to literally someone’s home on wheels. Check out the swiveling captains chairs!

_4-7

Seriously, the more I look at vans like these, the more I warm up to my wife’s ideas for converting the wide open spaces of the Hiace into living quarters. This just looks like downright fun to either grab your kids or a few friends and hang out by the beach or in a national park. Cluster around the table to play cards while you grill up some dinner outside – what could be better?

_4-6

The seller of this Red-E-Kamp conversion is hoping you’ll agree, especially since the reserve hasn’t been met and there’s just over a day left on the auction. It has just over 64,000 original miles, and the seller claims the Red-E-Kamp model was the most desirable out of the lineup of Campmobile products. I have no way to confirm that but maybe some of our readers know a thing or two about these conversions and can validate the seller’s claims. Let us know in the comments below!

A twin to the one we saw (same one) on Nov. 1.

Been a lot of twins lately. I guess the mods don’t read the site as often as we do.

We do. It can just happen occasionally when you have multiple people writing.

Still have my ’73 Chevy G-20(“Open Road”, converted in Florida), which served me very well over the years pulling my trailer with its race car on it(same 350 4bbl, 3 spd. auto tm.). Also served me well for camping and parties with my friends.
This one is much nicer, but I prefer my layout as the driver’s side captain’s chair can’t be swiveled around here??. Also, the rear doors are now almost useless and I can see my pullout bed saves room compared to this one.
Nice to see the same color armrests, dash panel, and engine cover as mine; brings back many fond memories

This has to be the same one from Nov 1, there can’t possibly be two in this pristine condition.

Nothing reeks of the seventies like the color babysheiss brown, all brown interior…………and those plaid seats…they remind me of the sport coats that Reagan used to wear…god I hated the seventies..lol.and the eighties for that matter!

My Parents owned a 76 and used it for short weekend trips just for the two of them, instead of hooking up and pulling the Airstream camper. I used it a few times on fishing trips, and going to races. It was in the best shape in the world when Dad sold it, because it had set for a while because when Mom an Dad go now they are gone for a month or so, so the Airstream is how they go. As a matter of fact they are leaving for Texas for the Winter very soon.

Reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite’s Uncle Rico’s Dodge Santana conversion. “Coulda took State!”
