Ready To Roll: 1952 Chevrolet 3100

While old trucks are always a cool sight to see, it seems that there aren’t nearly enough of them out on the roads. This turnkey 1952 Chevrolet 3100 is ready to roll, and has been updated and rebuilt all in the same package. Only a day into the auction and the price has risen to $4,850.00. Check out this sweet driver here on eBay out of Kingsport, Tennessee.

While the original engine is missing in action, the seller installed what looks to be an emissions equipped 250 inline 6 that is backed by a 2 speed power-glide. The engine is not the only modern item in this truck as a new wiring harness has been fitted, and this 12 volt truck retains all of its features including turn signals, and even the interior cabin light. The brake system has been overhauled, and the suspension has been tightened up as well.

The interior is simple yet charming, and the only real evidence that this truck has been touched is the sound deadening on the floors, and the seat cover on the bench. I would likely opt to add either carpet or a rubber mat to the floor to hide the sound deadening, and I would also install door panels and door pulls to make the truck a little more comfortable.

The exterior is well weathered, but it seems the there is little to no rot to be found on this old Chevy. Overall the body looks nice and straight, but there are a few different shades of color on this truck. All of the glass looks nice, minus the passenger front windshield which is starting to turn cloudy. A fresh wood bed has been installed really holding true to this truck’s original appearance. While this truck isn’t exactly original, it is a great looking classic driver that would likely be quite reliable and fun. What would you do with this reliable ready to drive classic?

” They call it flipper, flipper, flipper, faster than lightning”. This is what these trucks should bring. If this truck was in Cal. and very well could end up there, you could add another digit to the price. Moral of story, buy them in Tennessee.

Nice old truck and a 5-window! Daily driver. With the exception of the Powerglide trans, I wouldn’t change a thing. Should bring well over $10k.

I would’ve looked for another motor. That smogger 250 isn’t bad but was so lean and the timing so retarded that it burned exhaust valves by the 24 pack. I’d have gone for a 235 if the 216 splasher wasn’t available. But then, I prefer them original. Very nice truck and a good buy just the same.

Valves come in “24 packs” now? Only you would know that, my friend. No wonder them old Chevy’s backfired so much.

Glad Brian could manage to decode the eBay listing for us. Nice truck but a struggle to decipher without punctuation and grammar. Actually, a hoot t read and will probably end up as a nice cruiser for somebody.

I VERY first thing I’d want to do is pull the 250 inline 6 and 2 speed power glide and install a 350 small block and turbo 350/400 automatic AT A MINIMUM! Personally, I’d want a 5.3/6.0 LS swap with over drive transmission……..but then you’d want to upgrade brakes, suspension, tires/wheels and stance!

I am fully convinced these things are just like cockroaches-they will survive and even thrive after a nuclear conflagration-long after everything else is gone!

It sounds like it has copper “break” lines. Unsafe and illegal. Copper work anneals from vibration and becomes brittle.

Copper Brake lines: Still used for old British cars. They work fine if kept in good shape. I’ve had them in use for years.

The ones I have dealt with ( in LBCs) are a cupronickel material. Not sure if that is much different but they are pretty bombproof

I like these trucks and have had 2 of them so far. Not interested in this one, don’t like the engine and trans combination. I’d rather get one not running and do my own thing.
Agree with the above comment on the copper brake lines.

Nicopp is dot approved for brake lines. Installing full system on my 06 Caddy.

Nothing wrong with a power glide transmission. Years ago I had a 68 chevy pick up with a V-8 and a power glide. Actually they became very popular with circle track dirt racers.

I don’t think that’s a 250. I think it looks more like a 292, judging from the dip in the center of the valve cover.

I highly doubt that, the 292 only came in 2 ton + trucks so very unlikely that they would of had those smoger valve covers. That is not actually a dip, it is more of an addition on the top of the standard valve cover for smog control reasons.

What is all that stuff hanging off the side of the valve cover and why would you keep it?

Think I’d rather have a 3speed on the tree, than that powerglide, which would lead me to believe that the powerglide is not original equipment, other than that I’d be proud to have it, looks like a great daily driver as is

My buddy has what we believe to be a 1954 3100 out in the barn out back. It’s been sitting for 35 years and his grandfather bought it out west. The story goes him and a bud were out at a diner in the middle of nowhere and I guess the truck pulled up with a for sale sign on it. Him and his bud both had $100 on them and pitched in and split it and got the truck for $200 and drove it back home to Ohio. He ended up buying the rest off his bud and drove the truck for years until parking it because he “stopped driving it”

We put a 12 volt battery in it and got some power (interior lights, headlights, tail lights etc) but nothing turned over, later realizing it was actually supposed to run on a 6 volt battery. Also appears to have the original engine & trans.

Regardless, it’s still sitting there. Sooner or later, maybe this summer, we’ll pull it out and really do something with it. It’s got a door off of a ’49 chevy 3100 on the driver side, and a rustic body with old green paint.

    Hey Norman,
I worked on a 74 3/4 ton 4WD Chevy in Vo-Tech class in 77 for the original owner with a 292 . Big torquey motor. I’ve seen numerous others that weren’t in 2 ton trucks….
