Chevrolet produced the Chevelle in 1964 to fill the mid-size car gap and respond to Ford’s popular Fairlane. Over the next few years, the model saw many iterations, including a 4-door sedan, a wagon, a pickup version, and the wildly popular Super Sport model. In 1970, an RPO Z15 bought you a brand-new Chevelle SS454. This example is a documented car built in Canada with 88,786 miles on the odometer. It is 1 of 7 that was made with the Saddle interior. For a price of $74,900 this SS is available here on craigslist in Granite Falls, Washington. Thanks for a great tip from Curvette.

The engine here is an EF-code 1966/67 396, not the numbers matching the original 454. The EF code was an L34 396 cu. In. with 350 or 360 horsepower, depending on which year it was manufactured. The transmission is a factory 4-speed. It has a 3:31 Posi-traction differential, and it has new tires all around.
The Cranberry Red paint looks to be pretty flawless and includes the famous white SS stripes. The seller claims the car is virtually rust-free, and from the pictures included in their post of the underside, this appears to be true. The interior is Saddle with bucket seats and a console-mounted 4-speed shifter. Comforts include power brakes and power steering, but it lacks air conditioning.
A true Z15 averages around $105,000 nowadays. I have found a few examples of 1970 Z25 Chevelle SS, which was the 396 version, for anywhere from $99,000 to $169,000. As a “hybrid” of the two, does it command the current price? Being a beautiful example, it may be someone’s car show classic. Could it be yours?
