Ready To Work: 1972 Jeep J2000

This 1972 Jeep J2000 Pickup is located on the wide open plains of Montana near the beautiful town of Kalispell. The truck looks to be a survivor and is painted in its original yellow paint with a tan interior. The truck makes dramatic statement in the pictures and looks to have been a hard working ranch vehicle. With 2 days remaining in the auction, the truck is bid to $5,369 and has a Buy It Now Price of $6,750. You can place your bid for this truck here on eBay. The seller has also added a video which can be seen here on YouTube.

The seller has only had the vehicle for a year but has spent a lot of time getting it run and be dependable again. The Jeep is equipped with a 360 cubic inch V8 engine that is backed by a turbo 400 automatic 3 speed transmission. The rear gears are a steep 4:09 ratio. The truck has power steering and power brakes. The seller has rebuilt the carburetor and brake system. The wheels were removed and powder coated white. I think they look pretty good. A lot of small items were done to reduce noise and lube a lot of the parts. The speedometer was refaced and all the gauges are now working again. The truck has a Dana 44 for both axles and the truck is said to run and drive great.

The bench seat looks a little frumpy nextg to the new carpet and nice look dash. I just rebuilt a bench seat in my 1966 GMC K1000 and it is not that hard to do. I don’t know if they make upholstery kits for the J2000 but I would think that it would not be that hard to bring the seat up to looking like new. There is a small rust hole in the floor board by the gas pedal. The transfer case has a lot of play in it and will eventually need to be rebuilt.

This J2000 has a seven foot bed and the windshield and tires were recently replaced. There are some dents and dings but the truck looks pretty solid. There are 97,250 miles on the odometer which is not bad for a 49 year old truck. If this truck checks all the boxes for you, it might be a good find.

    I had a 1984 Pontiac J2000…
It was in fact a base Sunbird.

I had an 83(?) j2000. Previous life was in a regional forestry service usage. Some where’s along the line the 360 went bye bye, so a 440 was installed in its place. Had that truck a couple years until the head gasket blew inwards and the engine seized.

4 low didn’t work, something to do with the linkage being out of whack, never took the time to delve into that issue.

It was great for trips to the lumber yard, hauled a pallet of concrete mix home for a project. Back end barely dropped about 4 inches.

Gas mileage was about 6 to the gallon!

Great truck for hard work and getting thru the snow.

I would love to stretch one of these jeep trucks to a 4 door and modernize the driveline, but alas, not enough time to do them all.
