Realtor’s Ride: 1977 Cadillac DeVille

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Cadillac DeVille has historically been a car that many individuals aspire to own. Particularly in the leisure suite 70s when personal luxury coupes were all the rage, the DeVille rose to prominence as a serious status symbol. That’s why the history of this “Naples Yellow” survivor reads like a textbook Cadillac tale, with the first owner showering the big Caddy with the affection necessary to keep it in mint condition, and his daughter – a prominent Georgia realtor – keeping the tradition alive by using it as her vehicle of choice when moving local housing stock. Find the Cadillac here on eBay with an opening bid of $12,500 and no action yet.

Naples Yellow is such a great name for a 70s Cadillac color. It practically admits that the DeVille was built to prowl around retirement communities and lead a relaxing existence parked in the lower-level parking garage of a Miami condo complex. The seller’s car still presents like something much closer to a new vehicle than its 53,000 miles would suggest, with beautiful chrome bumpers, gorgeous taillamp lenses, crystal-clear glass, and of course, smooth, buttery paint. The seller reports the paint is 90 percent original with some touch-ups noted and plenty of shine left in the finish.

The brown leather interior is in good, original condition, looking as you’d expect for a car that’s seen some use but not a ton. This is where Cadillacs from this era always lose me a bit, as I feel like your connection to the car is buried underneath acres of dashboard plastics, fake wood, and acres of leather. Isolating is the word that comes to mind. Still, that’s a big part of the appeal for most Cadillac fans is that feeling to total cushioning with nary a quiver from a piece of broken pavement entering into the suspension or steering column. The seller notes he replaced the A/C compressor and it blows super cold, as required when living in Florida as the seller does.

Other recent work includes a professionally re-cored radiator, new heater core, new shocks, brake job, and a replacement blower motor. These were not needy cars when new but they can become massive projects when neglected (and their value also plummets when not looked after.) The seller’s opening bid seems like a fair number, but I always feel these auctions with the high opening bid never get much interest. Regardless, I love the color of this Caddy, and the seller seems to have tackled some expensive repairs to make this realtor’s ride a treat to drive. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Larry D. for the find.

Sorry but that is the UGLIEST color combo one could imagine… and its inside and out. UGH… I sold my dear moms ’79 Coupe Deville, a beautiful car with 59k miles, the lacquer Dove Gray paint shined like glass and the silver gray crushed velour interior was like brand new for just $5500 about 11yrs ago on ebay… I should have kept it I guess, but Dad didn’t want it sitting in the garage reminding him every day of mom, he wouldn’t drive it because it was HER car, and i didn’t have anywhere to store it. Gentleman from NY bought her, I hope he still has it and enjoys it.

The driver seat butt part looks like it has a broken spring in the
middle. Nice big car but the interior in dark brown would make
the greater statement then this sand coloured glossy leather
appearance. And a dark brown vinyl roof pls. Perfect.
