Recent Barn Find: 1967 Jaguar Mark II 340

1967 was the end of the line for the Jaguar Mark II, which began production in Coventry, England for the 1959 model year.  The mid-size offering Jaguar was rebadged as the 340 for its final year, for the cars equipped with the 3.4-liter engine, or the 240 if there was a 2.4 liter under the hood.  Cost-saving downgrades also appeared for ’67, such as a faux leather-type material replacing the real thing inside, plus the 3.8-liter model was discontinued altogether.  Even with a few cutbacks the car still retained its beautiful looks, and if you’ve been in the market for a recent Barn Find type example this 1967 Jaguar Mark II 340 would definitely be worth taking a look at.  The car is located in Seattle, Washington, and can be found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $10.000.

We’d like to give a big thank you to reader T.J. for the great tip on this one!  The current owner says that the Jaguar was parked for several years before he found it in a barn in dry southern California, and claims that there is zero rust or rot on the vehicle.  It’s still wearing the original paint, which is said to have a super nice patina.  He doesn’t really want to sell it but could use some cash for a business venture, and for that reason, it is one of several vintage vehicles the seller has up for grabs, so whichever sells first the rest will be taken off the market.

When the car was first brought out of hibernation, the seller drained the fuel tank, replaced the battery, put on new hoses, and added new coolant.  The car is said to have fired right up after that and it runs well, but just not to the daily driver status quite yet.  It could use a carburetor rebuild and some brake work, plus there’s an oil leak at the metal oil filter canister, which the new oil filter and seals on order will hopefully eliminate.  The automatic transmission is said to work fine, with no leaks present.

Overall the interior is stated to be in very good shape, although the wood on the dashboard could stand to be refinished.  The headliner is in great shape, just dirty, and the seats are all intact and comfortable.  The seller mentions that most of these came with steel wheels and hubcaps, but his car is equipped with the wire-type variety.  What are your thoughts on this 1967 Jaguar Mark II 340?

I’m not sure if others have experienced this but when I see a car that really captivates my attention I create a time stamp in memory. Like a photo with geotagging. That is what I see when I saw this write up. Way back in the early 90’s I was driving to a doctors appointment when I saw one of these on a car lot. I remember it being black and in sad condition. Not something I would have considered to purchase but what struck me was the lines of the car and it’s presence. To Jags of this era are like works of art. Like a painting in a gallery where you just want to stand there and study it.

Lovely looking car. If only more pics were posted. There’s no such thing as too many pics when it comes to advertising a car. The more pics, the better.

Personally I find it overkill to have over 100 pictures as on popular on line auction sites. 20 exterior, 15 interior, 15 hood and trunk and 10 on a lift should cover most needs. Everything takes time, after all!

This is a nice car. 3.4 is a good engine, some low grade trim aspects of 340 hurt values, but this is still a MK2 Jag after all?

People who buy cars on sites like BAT are usually spending really big money on a car they haven’t seen and can’t inspect. So the site has rules for how many and what kind of images to include. I have bought and sold several cars on BAT and am happy to see and provide the images as well as cold start, running and driving videos.

I was only 12 when the Mark lll 3.8L came out and fell in love, they are still one of my all-time favorite cars ever. They are simply beautiful. Hopefully this car will grace the road again!

It definitely has patina and that seems a reasonable price for this survivor. There were 100 1967 MK2s sold to a California dealer and rebadged as 340s although they all had the heavier MK2 bumpers and MK2 VINs. They were all white or black (if I remember correctly) and did have vinyl seat covers, but were otherwise MK2s. There is one sitting in my driveway awaiting time to reinstall its rebuilt 3.4 XK engine and a 420 donor car’s power steering to replace the manual steering. In my opinion, the only better looking Jaguars are the D-type, E-type, and Series III XJ6s.

Beautiful car; really reminds me of the one Inspector Morse drove during his series though his was earlier, red, with leather. Love the lines of these Jags.

If that really is a rust free Cal car with original paint that runs ok, I’m ok with 10K If you can sort it out for 5k more, you have a fun car.

Don’t believe a word these seller say. I bought this car 3 months ago. It is not for sale. These sellers know that, yet still advertise it for sale. Very dishonest.
